Is there any way I can get rid of the bars that show up on some dvds that I play on my widscreen monitor? I thought widescreen dvds were supposed to be barless on widescreen montiors. Other widescreen movies play full-widescreen on my widescreen monitor. Why are some movies picky? Thanks! :)

There's different ratios. Some are 16x9, some are 2.35:1, etc... Just depends what format they were filmed in.

To elaborate, your laptop's LCD is a 16:10 aspect ratio screen, and most movies are filmed in 16:9 (the standard aspect ratio for movie theater projectors and HDTVs). So while the bars will be less pronounced than on a standard 4:3 screen, they will still be there.
