How many people are addicted to widgets. I just downloaded yahoo's widget program today and I love it. I have already download 20 widgets. I like the gmail checker, weather, and calendar.
How many widgets do you have?
-
None so far, but i'll give it a try
-
You can download the yahoo widget program here.

What's the other one called? Besides Yahoo? I've been meaning to give these a whirl...just not sure which ones I'll need. I use the firefox extension for gmail...and I've pretty much always got Firefox open(unless gaming or something), so I don't need a gmail widget. I never use calendars on my computer....but it's something I'd like to play around with.

I have about 4 on my desktop at times, but then i get rid of them, but then for some reason i always want them back. i guess they slow down my computer a little. But now, i think ill give them another try
-
tullnd,
There are plenty of widget programs you can use. You download the engine to run the programs then you search through the widgets and download what you want.
Nick,
I think it slows down my computer a little but I have 2GB of ram so I don't notice it that much.
Tim -
When i first got this, it had very little widgets, last time i had it, there were quite a few.
These widgets are becoming very popular -
I used to be, but stopped using them due to extreme RAM consumption.
-
Tried, didn't like it. Resource eater (not too much, but it is), and didn't find anything really useful (well at least when it was called Konfabulator). I guess I am my own best widget.

I don't have any of these things. I really don't want another process running and more RAM consumption than what WinXp already takes on its own.
If I want to do anything these widgets show then I'll just take a minute or two out of my time and go to the proper websites. I don't know why, but I've just never jumped on this whole UI craze.
-
I don't have any. My philosophy is if you don't need it, don't use it. I have all the functionality I need.
-
I gave them another try, my computer just slows down. Even on 768MB of RAM. But i also think it is my CPU as well
-
I guess you just need to have 2GB of ram for them to work the best, but I wouldn't think one widget could slow down your computer that much. Widgets are personal preferences. Don't really need them but they sure look nice to have.
Tim -
Look lovely. But as others have said, got fed up of the RAM usage, and although they seemed functional at first, I found that they just ended up looking pretty and not being as "useful" as I first thought.
-
Wow quite a few people don't know what a widget is. Look on that link in the first page. It will explain it better than I can. lol
Tim -
I have 8 running all the time and don't notice any effects on the speed of my laptop. Only 1 gb ram and a 2.0ghz processor. Calendar, mini weather, wifi signal, werewolf monitor, cpu mon, battery mon, launcher and rolling launcher.
-
Anybody have a link to a bill reminder widget? My girlfriend always forgets her Credit card dates, and she'd probably like a program like this.
-
I might start with widgets again when I get my SZ.
-
I got rid of my widgets in favor of a sidebar. Sure the widgets are great but I hate a messy desktop.

Wish there was the option for 0 to show how many people actually do NOT use wigets.
-
want widgets? buy a mac...they're lovely.
-
Warlord,
Where did you pick up your sidebar? I might need to get one for myself.
Adam -
Thanks for asking that question atomic1. It was just what I was going to ask. Sorry that I didn't include 0. First poll and I wasn't to sure how to do it. I will remember next time.
-
I have 5 running (rusted clock, wifi signal, calender, weather, battery), and don't notice any slow down. 1.25gb ram and Turion ML-40 here. They also ran find on my old lappie with 512mb and p4 1.7.
-
Here are mine. I am using since few months, sure they are RAM-eaters and CPU-users.

I just downloaded Desktop Sidebar... www.desktopsidebar.com
I prefer it far over widgets because it is only one process, and the whole thing takes about 13mb. Although, if you do use it to launch other programs then of course those will run as additional processes. I can handle this, and it's pretty...with the right skin -
I use one for tc guide and the other for weather at the moment it uses 1.3mb memory so I dont know what Y'all complaining about.
-
Oh I'm addicted, but at the same time they kinda mess with my system a bit and loading times when booting up are kinda longer than I like, but I still love'em to death.
Makes your laptop look so sophisticated and SPECIAL.
I love'em
Cheers,
