This is an issue I hadn't though of when considering Asus' G73 until someone brought it up.

You're stuck using hacked drivers on ATi hardware (boo!), and I'm not sure if that means they won't run Blu Ray or not. Does anyone know?

(And for that matter, does anyone know if you can just force ATi reference drivers to install instead of hacking them, like you could with Nvidia's drivers prior to them giving official support?)

Blu-Ray probably won't run because it's not a signed driver package. I don't know for sure, though.

Okay, thanks. That's what I figuring. Glad someone brought it up before I preordered a $1650 ATi system!

It's not just ATI. If you install unsigned drivers for Nvidia the same thing applies.

Yeah, but Nvidia provides driver support for their mobile GPUs where ATi doesn't.

Then wait until ASUS releases their official drivers, the G73 is a brand new model sporting a brand new card, ASUS would be stupid if they don't at least support it, especially considering the 5000 series have ways to go yet in terms of completely mature drivers.

I forgot to update this thread! Since posting this I've confirmed that hacked drivers do NOT work with Blu Ray, so ATi's out for me.

Possibly considering a G72 or the like now.
