Does anyone know if Firefox 4 will launch with a 64 bit version? If so, will x86 addons still work properly?
I understand that 32bit plugins will not work though, which means it might take some time until popular plugins are available. Although Flash and Java are out in 64 bit (I'm testing them in Minefield and they work good).

According to this they will only be releasing 32 bit versions.

Mozilla never released a 64-bit Firefox. There is a 64-bit Firefox that another group developed, but it's only semi-stable. I fear the day a browser actually needs to be able to access enough memory that 64-bit is required.

Never released, but they're currently doing nightly builds of Minefield for 64bit Windows. There's a bug in the JIT VM right now that's a bit of a pain, but:

My 64-bit Minefield is unusable, it lately has been crashing soon after startup.

Not a fan of the nightlies. When they're stable, they're wonderful and better than the releases, but when they're bad, they're absolutely terrible and can take down my computer with them.
-
Addons would be a problem with 64 bit right? And addons are the only reason I still use firefox.
-
That's because the JIT compiler is hosed. Install the 9/30 nightly build or earlier, and that will work, and then if you want to update you can go into your about:config and turn both your options.methodjit parameters to false, and it'll run fine.
Here's the relevant bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=601355 -

I only have FF installed for Downthemall and a Last.fm scrobbling add on, so that means I don't use it much and can wait for them to fix it.
Will FF4 launch with x64 version?
