I made a PowerPoint using Microsoft office 2010 for a project that I have to present tomorrow at school. The problem is that at my school, they have Office 2003 installed on all of the computers. I know there is an option for saving in 97-2003 office format, but I want to make sure that it works without having to worry.

Any good ways to test if it is going to work? Would installing PowerPoint 2003 overwrite my 2010 installation? Would opening it in openoffice be similar as 2003? I really want to make sure it works tomorrow!

if you save the 2010 ppt as a older format it should work fine.. i also am pretty sure you can save the ppt as a dedicated exe so that it could open on any machine

    Found some info:
    Save your presentation as .pps

    File-->Save as -->select Powerpoint Show

The .pps option is the one that turns it into a .exe file? Are there any disadvantages to it?

It is much safer and easier to save it as 97-2003 option. Then reopen the ppt (not pptx). It should open it in compatibility mode, run through it to make sure everything is working.

Just do both, it nice to have a redundancy plan that is prepared ahead of time before. Go early to class and prepare the slide to get it to work.

That's what I was going to do, I just wanted to know if there was anything I should know before I do that.

    Thanks guys!

Oh and when I open it after saving it as a .ppt, it should say Compatibility Mode at the very top correct?

when you save it as a exe it is view only no edits.... when you save it as a ppt (older version) if you do any thing like special fonts or formating only usable in 2010 it might not look the same

Yes that is correct, it should say Compatibility Mode. :)

If he uses standard fonts that exist in MS OS platforms on 2000 and on, they are still the same.
I don't remember if they add any new fonts in 2010.

To me, all my newer 2010 ppts works fine all the way down to 97.
The only thing that looked odd was using the mac version of office :p.

Save as PPT 97-03 in your PPT 2010 and it will warn you of loss of functionality/etc. when saving. Confirm, and it will open fine in 2003.

    yep, do as Falco said.

I keep "compatibility mode" as default, to avoid problems...
