Ok, I will be getting an Inspiron 1520, and I want to know if the sigmatel onboard chip it uses will work with Reason 3.0 (a music/sound editing software). I know I shouldn't use oboard for that stuff lol, but I have to for now, and I have a feeling the X-fi external wont help much since it mainly benefits gaming. Will Reason 3.0 work with onboard? plz help lol.

It will work, you just have to change the preference of soundcard in the Reason dashboard. Nice program btw!

Well it won't be anything super but it will work. It's analog audio which will degrade the quality vs say 24bit audio via optical. But you are not going to notice an audible difference unless you were in a studio. Heck when I used it I had a Logitech Z 5.4 desktop surround sound and ran it thru my onboard headphone hack and it sounded great. Just be sure to turn all eq's that are running thru the control panel>sounds so that you are getting a flat signal thru the onboard, then use reason's rack eq's to make your adjustments. You also should set the system volume at 50% then use reason to adjust or you'll get some very distorted audio when you burn to a cd and play on an exteral system.

right now on my desktop, i use a logitech z-5300e 5.1 system with an x-fi, of course that will still not be suitable for studio because the speakers are not flat.

I also have Sigmatel C-Major Audio, and I can use Reason 3 (3.0.4) perfectly, but to improve audio performance, you'll need to install a driver called ASIO4ALL.

You can download it from http://www.asio4all.com (prefer the latest beta driver)
