If I upgrade to Vista and then decide that I want to go back to XP, can I reinstall XP and reactivate it?

only by phone, online if you're lucky

If you have valid install media, with valid licenses for both, you can install both.

I thought "upgrading" would invalidate your XP license. Since that's cheaper but better to get an OEM copy.

Hard to say with Microsoft. Every other vendor I've encountered it does not. In fact, Adobe upgrades require that the software being upgraded from be installed in order to reinstall the upgrade.
Will Upgrading to Vista mean invalidating your copy of XP?
