    Hey there techies,
I apologize in advance if these questions have been posted before, and if your paraqueet happened to pass away yesterday while you were in Tajiskistan visiting your ailing grandma.

My questions (eddicated selections of the many):

    -92330.2324%^023)
I recently (as in this morning 20 minutes before the bus came) ordered a Dell XPS m1530, speccies in siggie. I was wondering whether it would come with Vista Home Premium x32 or x64; I'm hoping x32 because the game I plan to run does not function on x64. If it does come with a x64, is there any way I can "downgrade" to x32, cheaply at least?

    7812953*$2310^12098+85234/34)
This @!?$*! has been nagging me for ages (no, I'm not talking about your girlfriend's pink flowered sandals). On the laptop I ordered, will Vista come pre-installed? Will I have to do anything besides turning it on? I hear frequent discussion regarding drivers...will I have to install ones from wierd websites or will the ones of the provided CD suffice?

Please, will some brave and valiant NBR member come to my aid in my time of need?

Seriously, any help is appreciated. This is a matter of going through customs on the plane or not (literally, I plan to get it shipped to relatives who are coming by plane, and now they have those crappy *turn on your laptop or watch it become my toilet paper* security checks nowadays...)

Danke sehr (that's kthx in Germsman).

    It's vista 32bits

BUT the first think you should when you receive it isto re-install it doing a clean install. If you'don have a Vista DVD at home, look on the forums for "clean install with recovery disk".

I'm curious, wich game does not run under x64?

    Forgive me if I
a)am not as technologically sophisticated as you
b)hadn't already apologized in the first place if this thread was repetitive or base.

JCMS, the game I wanna play is probably one you've never heard of, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It was an expansion pack of the RtCW series then it got turned into a free stand-alone game due to its popularity. It repeatedly gets in the top 5 on Xfire for most hours per day and per week. Read more up on it here:

It's very popular for modding (runs on the Quake engine) and customized maps.

Vista must be already installed on the HDD then...and you propose I should do a clean install from the recovery disks? I'll look into that. Thanks for the responses!

FYI dell does not usually provide recovery disks. I would see how the system performs first before really doing a clean install.

Just curious, didn't Dell ask you to choose an OS when you configure the system?

First of all I had no clue what you were talking about.

Now let's come to your point. Clean install cannot be done using the manufacturer supplied recovery disks, as they most likely will restore the system to the factory state. You can get a windows anytime upgrade dvd to do a clean install or an actual vista dvd from a friend.

Actually that's not always true. I requested recovery CD from Dell a while before and it turned out to be a clean version of XP without any bloatware.

I selected Vista Home Premium but it did not mention whether it was 32 bit or 64 bit.
So a clean install isn't that necessary then? I had to select McAfee as my security (either that or Trend Micro, no "None" choice), but other than that I didn't choose any software.

Even if you didn't choose any it doesn't mean that Dell wouldn't put it on your system. ;)

Anyway you can always uninstall the bloatwares using the built-in uninstaller. If somehow the system is still unusually sluggish THEN do a clean install. Well I guess it's ultimately up you. Some people like to have a clean start, but personally I think it's too troublesome.
