Especially in terms of gaming performance... i'm really starting to have my doubts since everything runs at much higher framerates on XP.

I also noticed the readme for Vista Service Pack 1 didn't hint at any performance enhancements... since vista has been marketed alot to gamers is Microsoft the cause of false or misleading information?

Well, I think vista is more tweaked for DirectX 10 which means all future games will run better on vista (or will only run on vista). Also, hardware is now improving allot hence old games will run faster in vista by next year due to more robust hardware. I don't think vista will run games better on current hardware when compare to XP because those games are designed to work on XP not vista.

Vista will pick up, (performance-wise) with time, especially when programmers start taking advantage of it's 64-bit capabilities. Although my cpu benchmarks were still higher than with xp.

Games develloped under vista are working as good as on XP, according you have a Vista-competant hardware.

Oblivion is pretty much the only game that suffer greatly

Well, it defines what you consider "be as good as XP". In terms of resource consumption or just plain old bloatedness, it can't really ever beat XP, but in the sense that it can run quickly and reliably on sufficient hardware, it may eventually beat XP.

Which is exactly why it is, for now, a rather pointless OS.

Meh, Windows 98 used to provide better gaming performance than XP. What happened with XP should give you some indication as to what will happen with Vista. ;)

With XP you could see the light, as in SP1. With Vista.. SP1 just might not cut it.

you say with time it will get better.... Vista's been out for quite a while now i think if there were going to be performance patches they would have quickly rolled them out by now :(

They did quite a few, search the forums for them.

Also, those who said xp with SP1 is better than Vista, I have to disagree with you. XP was like the current Vista when it did not have any of the SPs, heck XP only became the most stable and efficient OS after the initiation of SP2. With Vista's SP1 coming out at the beginning of next year, we will see if Vista is truly on the same path as XP.

new+old hardware = sp1 is designed to make more hardware "compatible" with vista.

XP only got good after SP2, and the performance side of that was simply because XP had been out for years at that point and hardware had significantly passed the minimum requirements. Vista is already far more secure than XP ever was, and the performance side will sort itself out in the next year when even the most basic systems are equipped with 2GHz+ processors and 2GB of RAM.

Oh my god...another week another same same article.

XP is like a Pinto whereas Vista is like a Jag. The Pinto is never coming back Im afraid.

Oh, the other similarity is that it has always been prone to crashing just as the Pinto to blowing up

I never thought I would be saying this ......But Vista is actually better at the moment for me. Vista only starts up around 50MB higher usage than XP.

I only played San Andreas, FEAR & SWAT 4 on Vista and all work perfectly fine as XP. No I did not do any Benchmarks, but game play felt the same and no lag at all.

Vista does seem to still have some compatibility problems and using the programs I use to Convert Video is Hit or Miss. XP is still the safer bet for CPU intense apps(which is the only reason I still use XP). At the moment I have more apps on Vista than XP. And most work without any glitches.

So you're saying that XP, which doesn't look as good, is less secure, and which is incapable of running the high graphical capabilities of DX10, is better because it is faster?

I guess if none of the other stuff matters, I can see your point. Even if you believe that, everyone nows you're placing your bets on a losing horse.

Vista will be as good as XP, after Service Pack 3 and around 4 years in the market.
