I just dug out an old desktop that needs reformatted desperately. I don't have a recovery cd that came with it, will the one that came with my notebook work for a desktop?

Depends on the recovery CD, You still will need a separate OEM cd key for your desktop.

I used to load different Dell computers with Windows Me Reinstall disk. I tried it on other PC's that are not Dell and didn't work.
But then again, Recovery CD/DVD are much different.
Maybe if it's the same BRAND it might work.
I always wondered the same thing too. -
Well its an HP Notebook recovery cd, i just used it recently to reformat my notebook. It worked great. And Im trying to reformat an HP Desktop
I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger, I can get another cd if need be, this computer was collecting dust to begin with. -
The cd worked, just to let everyone know

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
I used my Dell recovery disk on my old HP Media Center PC. Worked perfectly. I use to have Windows MCE on my HP, now I have Windows MCE 2005! Yay!

You realize that is called "piracy" ScifiMike12, unless you bought a retail license or something that allows you to install the same copy of Windows on multiple computers?
Will a notebook recovery cd work on a desktop?
