My laptop does not boot so I'm sending it in to the manufacturer for them to look at it. In the form I had to include my password for my Windows Login. I setup on Windows 8 and now on 8.1. When I first set up I think it said to login to your account, so I used my outlook email address and the same password that I used for it too.

Now as my password is the same for both my Windows login and Outlook email login I want to change my email password but I'm wondering if changing my email password would also change the Windows login? if it did it would cause problems during repair as they won't have the password to login.

I hope I explained it clearly enough, if not let me know. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, it will, that password is tied to your Microsoft account now.

Well, if they don't connect the laptop to the internet, the change will not take effect.

Thanks. That's a good point I don't believe they will need to go on the internet for anything as it's likely the motherboard that's the problem. Do you think it's best to leave it or change it? thinking about it they might connect to the internet to install updates for the motherboard maybe?

Well, updates can always be installed from external media. If you can contact them, you could always explain the situation and tell them not to connect the laptop to the Internet.

Next time, my suggestion would be to create a user account with admin rights just for the tech guys or if you have a spare hard drive, slam that in the laptop and then send it in. If they allow it, you could always send it without the drive. It won't help with the current situation, but those are solutions you can use if you ever need to send in a computer for repairs in the future.

Or just assign a PIN to a Win 8 machine.

Just change your account to a local account. No PW required.
