I've heard that many XP x64 edition drivers will work on Vista x64 with little or no modification. Is it true for the other way round where Vista x64 Drivers will work with XP x64?
I'm admitting, Vista drove me insane, and a pain for me (an early adopter). I will like to stick with the x64 platform if possible, so i'm planning to downgrade to XP x64.
p.s i believe it has been asked before, the thread cannot be found.

Not to my knowledge. Vista requires signed (WHQL certified and signed) drivers for Vista 64. Yet another reason I'm not going to use it. But that would exclude any unsigned XP64 drivers off the bat. And depending on the device, you may have spotty luck. Audio and video drivers will probably not work under Vista, but things like scanners and printers may.

I read that Vista is based off the Windows Server 2003 code after its reset. So in theory it should work. Anyone tried it real world?

Conclusion
Some x64 drivers, like the memory card drivers or the camera drivers will work. Other drivers are OS specific, such as ATi's Catalyst drivers.
For me, the XP x64 installation is a total flop as the critical components (graphics, sound and hotkey) do not have XP x64 specific drivers.
Time Capsule - To those who are in the future considering XP x64, post here on your driver compatibilities! -
Would be great if they had better support for XP 64bit.

Yea. Then there will be no reason to go to Vista x64

I tried installing XP x64 again. Most of the Vista x64 drivers worked without a hitch, and also thanks to asustreiber.de i managed to get the 64bit ATi drivers for graphics. With more hope, i proceeded on to install the updates. Initally it does not have sound, but Windows Update soon located it. All of the drivers except one 56K modem did not have the driver and i had a clean device manager. RMClock was used as the power management system, and it worked without a hitch.
Minor problems were found, such as the hotkeys not working or Windows Live Messenger 8.5 (Beta 2) was not able to install on x64 systems. Furthermore my 2nd semester is coming, and that meant i had to dump x64 out. I had ran Vista x64 before but with not much success.
Looking back, i realised that i had installed XP x64 3 times, each with increasing success. But compatibility problem makes this an OS that is not suitable for the college environment.
Good luck to those who will be installing x64 OS on their PCs!

Yeah, Windows XP x64 is a great OS, but sadly it has absolutely horrible compatibility. Its nearly impossible to find drivers for it. So, I switched over to Vista Ultimate x64 and that solved all of my problems. No compatibility problems whatsoever.
Will majority of Vista x64 drivers work on XP x64?
