    100% confirmed. I used my MSDN 32-bit key when I installed 64-bit Windows 7.

I read that you can still use the key as long as you deactivate it. And then activate it on your new install.

one key per user/install. doesn't matter how many computers or copies of the install media you have.

You activate a key/install on one machine that's it. Doesn't matter if you are trying for multiple 32/64 bit installs.

Every machine requires a separate, PAID FOR license key.

I installed the 32-bit version on my laptop and decided a day later that I would rather try out the 64-bit. The 32-bit version was activated and I had no trouble installing and activating the 64-bit version tonight. No deactivating was required.

that's because you used the same key on the same machine. same hardware/hash/whatever that msft uses to ID a specific install.

Yes....I did. No one here has mentioned using the key on a different machine. All the OP asked was if he could use the same key for 32-bit and 64-bit installations.

when you had your 32-bit and was upgrading 64-bit, did you clean install 64-bit? did you reformat your HD before installing 64-bit? or just pop the 64-bit and did the custom install (not upgrade) ?
    tnx

Windows 7 serial is tied to the SKU (Editions) not the bit.

The OP states that he downloaded from MSDN. MSDN keys will allow you to activate 10 different computers.

I just burned the 64-bit iso to a bootable disc using the utility from Microsoft's website, restarted and did the custom install. Everything booted up fine, let me activate it, and then I copied my files from the windows.old file and deleted it. I haven't had any trouble as of yet.

And when your 10 keys run out, you can just request another key :)

You get one key. It will allow 10 activations on it. I didn't know about requesting more keys from MS..
