From time to time I schedule chkdsk c: at startup since Windows does not allow it to run under it. Is there a log saved so I don't have to stare at the screen to see if there are errors found?

The chkdsk information will be in source file winlogon. Winlogon wil be in the Application section of the event viewer.

Administrative tools>Computer Management>Event Viewer or Start -> Run -> type "eventvwr.msc" (no quotes) -> ENTER. Click on Application and select the most recent winlogon entry as identified in Source.

Thanks! I selected the Winlogon event but nothing about chkdsk is shown?

By the way in msconfig I turned off GUI boot and turned on OS boot info so I ended up not seeing the chkdsk messages during startup. I did have to wait a long time and saw the hard disk light running so I think the chkdsk was done.

Yeah, you can look where Windows 7 actually stores the chkdsk information--an event called wininit

Windows XP stored it in winlogon; windows vista and 7 store it in wininit

:D I know, I still look there all the time. Windows XP has 12 years of inertia going for it...why Microsoft changed this, I will never know

Thank you! I will give that a try.

Update: wininit that is. Thanks again! :)
