Is there any known issues between these? I got one old laptop, a Dell with Win xp, and I bought a new laptop recently, a Sony Vaio FW41. It came originally with Vista but was upgraded to Win 7.

I've done tests on both laptops, in the exact same spot and circumstances, and the speed with my mobile connection is horrible on the new Sony. I got a Huawei E122 dongle and arrangement from company "3" connection. This is my one and only internet connection btw so this is extremely important. Sony says it's not their issue, "3" says it's Microsoft's issue, Microsofts says since my Win 7 is not retail it's not their issue and they won't give support and refers back to Sony.

The speed difference is in best case twive as slow of my old one, and in worst case up to ten times slower!!

I really thought getting a new laptop would improve everything including this so I'm so frustrated. I don't want to change OS cause Win 7 is such an improvement in any other way!

And yes, I've uninstalled all antivirus programs, firewalls and such, doesn't matter.

It sounds like it's a driver issue with the dongle. I assume you've got the latest ones, and have poked through the driver settings?

I use a USB 3G mobile connection on Win7 x64. It work very well most of the time. I do not use the application that is installed off the dongle, i just click the network connection task thing next to the clock. then select 1.3G and click connect (close the three app down and the three update process first). When i used the 3 application I had problems connecting, now it connects in 2-3 seconds.

I have updated the latest of course. I'm thinking if the modem itself, Huawei E122, isn't up to date, that is, perhaps it works poorly with windows 7. OR, could it be a problem with the usb ports?

Ok I'm gonna test that connection thing right now. I've gotten some horrible test results at speedtest.net so far, and even if the Huawei program shows I'm on "turbo 3g" it's slow as h*ll. Test right now, with turbo 3g, ping 543ms, up 0.19 mbps, 0.07 up. It took almost two minutes to finish the test.

Ok, disconnected, try the network connection instead. Ping 305ms, down 0.23mbps, up 0.05 mbps. If it's any improvement it's not very helpful. Turbo 3g my . I'm gonna throw out this laptop through the window soon!

It's bad weather today so it's unusually horribly bad btw, if it's clear and sunny it can come up to 1.70 down mbps (compared to 2.6 down on my old laptop).

I'm seriously considering buying a different modem, if that would help, like a new Sierra's that is meant for win 7. Or am I completely wrong and this is a computer problem and not the modem's -win 7 fault?

I got too frustrated, shut it off, started my old laptop with the modem (exact same location at my desk, haven't moved the modem), speedtest results: ping 200ms, 0.91 mbps down, 0.25 up. It's still pretty bad but like I said, it's the weather, but, it's 4 times faster down and it is workable (i work a lot on the net).

Dude Huawei don't even offer support for this modem! I had to search for a good 20 mins just to find a 64 bit compatible driver! This is the worst company ever
