I have two identical Acer netbooks, one that I bought new and another that I bought for my niece. Mine had Vista but I received a Windows 7 update from Acer and installed it. Can I update the second netbook with Windows 7 using the cd that Acer sent me??

you cannot install the OS on both computers if you are using the same serial for both installations. if you have two different serial keys, you should be able to use whatever method of installation as long as the product is the same, IE, a windows 7 premium serial number can only work on windows 7 premium installations.

You "can" install it, but you'll only be able to activate one :(

IMO a clean Vista SP2 install for the older laptop will probably make it much better than what it is now, and thats the best you can get without buying another W7 copy.
A fresh install can maka a big difference, especially on laptops wirh factory installed Windows.
Also, check how much RAM it got, if you have only 1 GB for instance it can affect performance quite much.
