If I have a retail purchased upgrade version of Win 7, and I have an authentic key/serial purchased from the ultimate steal, do I still need to do the download from digital river? Can I simply use the retail purchased disk and then use the ultimate steal key/serial number? I have already used the retail purchased key/serial on a different computer.

    TIA

if you have ulitmate steal key, you must instal ultimate. if you're using retail dvd, then you need to tweak it by removing ei.cfg so you can install ultimate version. that is, get the iso file on your comp, remove ei.cfg, make a new dvd.

student offer doesn't offer ultimate version. so if you want different version (pro, or home premium), go with student offer.

I dont think I understand! The "ultimate steal" is the name of the MS program that offers Office and Win 7 at a discounted price to university students. You indicate that if I have a key from this deal I must install Win 7 Ultimate? Is that what you are saying? Then you seem to say something different in your second paragraph???

Near as I can tell Win 7 home premium and Pro are the only 2 versions available with the ultimate steal deal.

The retail DVD which I have is Win 7 Professional. The ultimate steal key/serial will be for win 7 pro.

ok, i took 2 uses of the word "ultimate" (ultimate steal, win 7 ultimate) to be the same.

then yes, you can use ANY win 7 dvd with your serial key to do the installation. and since you have pro dvd, and pro serial, there's no need for iso tweaking even. :)
