The OEM does not come with the XP instruction booklet, and I think it does not come with extra warranty or something like the retail version has.
-
price difference....lol.

No fancy manual and no tech support from Microsoft. That, and legally it's tied to the computer you first install it all, it's a non-transferable license.
Those are the only differences. -
License is different I think. OEM can only be installed on one computer ever. Retail can be installed on different system if removed from original. I think.
-
Althought you are not supposed to, transfering it works under XP OEM. When I used XP, each I formatted I had to activate it through phone, when I installed it onmy c90s, I was able to do it online....
-
Yee, If your installing it on one system then go with the OEM.
And yes, that is legal if hes not building a system.
grazzt, I trust you can install software? Because if you can & your not building a system then its completely legal.
Just to stop the n00bs. -
I don't think it is legal even though you can do. You should contact MS give your name and address, then tell them what you are doing. I am sure they will be fine with it. In a few weeks expect a bill in the mail.
-
There's absolutely no way they can tell if it's a new system or not.....
-
I agree I am only talking about following the rules (laws) and I do know no one here on NBR would ever suggest otherwise. And I truly believe what you said above was more of a technical comment than encouragement or advice on how to avoid a EULA? So that is all I'm saying.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I plan on installing it on a new system. Yes I plan on building a system. Yes I will stay with one PC once installed. Yes I would like flexibility with the system so a retail version is what I need.
