When I boot up my previous thinkpads with XP Professional, the background is black when "Microsoft Windows XP" appears on screen, but my new thinkpad has white background. Is this normal? I had thought I got only XP without Pro but the system info does say Pro![]()

That probably just depends on what your background color is set to. Right-click your desktop, click properties, and select the "Desktop" tab. In the bottom right, see what the "Color" is set to. If it's white, then everything is fine. You can change it to black if it helps ease your fears

No, this is brand new thinkpad just received. I haven't set the background yet. The bootup background is before XP is loaded, is not affected by customization of the desktop.
-
Oh, you mean when the computer is booting and it has the scroll bar below it?
-
I don't think there is scroll bar. When you turn on the thinkpad, you see "Thinkpad" on the screen, then after some stuffs, "Microsoft Windows XP", then the desktop is loaded. It's when "Microsoft Windows XP" appears that I'm talking about. My previous two or three thinkpads all have black screen background behind these words, but the new laptop has WHITE background. Both cases are XP Pro 2002 version, I think service pack 2. So I'm just wondering.

It happens on some HP model as well. I would not be bothered with it.

-Yeah, it does happen with some HP models too. I guess it is just a different factory configuration thing so be at ease
