I have a perfect library !!! album art... tha works, kinda an ocd thing :p

Now for some strange reason Windows media player doubles the entries in the library ... I go to the original files and all are single copies

So I start to delete the extra entries and half-way there WMP crashes and I ended the process, so I restart and WMP is updating my library and again add and restore the extra entrees .... why it doing this

doubling entries as in you see 1 ablums split into 2?

if thats it, i found out it was not wmp and was the tags on the mp3s.

use mp3tag and make sure album artist is the same as the artist on each mp3of the album, so wmp wont split the album.

I think he means that all of his songs show up twice in his library.
    Here's what I'd do. Right-click in WMP, and pick File->Manage libraries->Music.
Remove all folders you see there, then add back ONLY the My Music folder on your computer. See if that works.

I actually have the same problem, but only on some songs/albums, not all of them. I will be curious to see if anyone knows why this is.

I suppose this is another good reason not to use WMP. Have you considered using WinAMP for music playback?

I got to looking at mine and somehow I got duplicate files. Something in the sync when transferring my old laptop must have gone wrong. (Nor am I sure how I looked it as it was the first thing I checked. I guess I must have assumed the duplicates were my FLAC copies.)

i think there is something wrong with your tags
try to import your library to another media player like winamp and see if the files going to duplicate or not
if it does then you have tags problem if doesn't you have wmp problem.

Now that I think about it .... I also have I tunes installed

... Don't Itunes use a different format ... is that why I got duplicates ?

Yes and no. iTunes uses ACC and MP3. When you install iTunes however it gives the options to convert your WMA files to ACC so they will work with iTunes. Sense WMA12 supports ACC by default it is possible that iTunes converted your WMA files to ACC and WMP is showing both the WMA and ACC version. Might be worth looking into. Simplest way I can think of is to select both tracks and WMP and look at the file type/location under properties.

It's AAC, not ACC. They'll show as .MP4 or .M4A files.
And since I don't use iTunes, I can't help you further.

    ...

So the main culprit is consolidating your files on Itunes .... got duplicates of everything ... sill working on a fix

    *Edit*

It's seems that WMP11 adds search/monitor drives. If the song/songs is located in two places that are being monitored it will show up twice... which the consolidated files from Itunes comes into play how to turn off ?

Damn Steve Jobs and his Nazi software

Try going to preferences in iTunes (under Edit menu) and select the Advanced tab. Make sure the sure the "Copy to iTunes media folder when adding to library" is unchecked.
