Win7 has easy upgrade, which lets you upgrade to win7 without a clean installation. However, I read somewhere that if you just do easy upgrade (from vista), then the resulting Win7 will not be as fast as it can be if you did a clean installation.

Is this true? Which is better?

    i think so..
because there's a lot of left over by vista that are not needed anymore.

It's always better to perform a clean upgrade. Then you have no questions about whether there are vestiges of prior installations hanging around.

Plus it's a good excuse for a "spring cleaning" of your system and just reinstalling what you really need and get rid of all the extra cr@p you don't use.

Yes, it's generally true that a clean install will be a bit faster, even after re-intalling all your programs. I personally always do clean installs, but the in-place upgrade isn't that bad either; it sure saves a lot of time.

if I do an easy upgrade, the drivers will update by themselves right?

    What about clean installs?

Clean install on my T400 finds all the generic drivers just fine. I did download specific Lenovo Win7 addons such as power manager, hot key, active protection, etc. This would likely be the case for an upgrade install as well.

yeah but my NP2096 has stuff like fingerprint software. My np2096 came preloaded with this fingerprint software that seems pretty integrated into my windows.
