Do you guys recommend turning it on or off? I like to search from my libraries as it's quick to find a song you want. Would I still be able to search my libraries if the indexing service is off? Anyway, what do you guys do? Thanks.

indexing is not a problem as long as you limit the indexing to your user folder. This is the default setting.
Once it is fully indexed only newly or modified files are reindexed and it takes little resources. So just keep it on and dont worry about it. -
Looks like I had my entire drive being indexed. I've selected only my user file. Thanks.

Now I can't search for media files and such from my search field in the start menu. Is that normal? How to re-enable that? Thanks much.

I figured it out. Public folders indexing had to be enabled...
Why can't I edit post?!?!?!?! Sorry abt that guys... -

The only performance impact you'll ever have is when it is first created - after that, none.
And if you ever use any form of search on the go - it will help you save battery power.
Edit:
You also want everything that's checked by default indexed - typically everything except the OS files - and software although that's not quite true as I can find the userguide in my Maple install...
If you just hit the Windows key and type a program into the start menu - that uses search and the index. -
Off + "Everything" search application = Victory

i just turned it off - but I never use search at all, besides the start menu for applications

I personally love being able to search for anything in the start menu.
