The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    I keep getting these WinFixer Spyware pop-ups while surfing the web. Ive tried ad-aware and spybot but neither of them work. any suggestions... i hope im allowed to post this problem in the hardware forum. thanks

    If you are using Internet Explorer, I would suggest HiJackThis. It will give a list of all the plug-ins installed into Internet Explorer. The offenders are usually easy to spot. I would also suggest using a browser that is not Internet Explorer as you'll get muc less of this stuff.

    You can try the firefox browser and it is free. You can also use the microsoft spyware protection on microsoft's website and that is also a free download.

    yea..firefox is good...i use firefox, microsoft anti-spyware, cc cleaner, spybot search and destroy, and ad-aware :D :D ...i haven't had a pop-up in a loooooong time...glad to see those gone ;) :p ...and i haven't had any viruses or any problems lately
