    i have a .Rar file can i use the same thing that unpacks zipped files to un pack a .Rar file? as i dont have access to WinRar i hav tried various versions they just dont get along with my computer i have no idea why or is there any online place that will unpack them as its the installing part it doesnt like yet all other apps download and install just fine.

    what issues you have run winrar it shound run on notebook no problem is not like very instense program sound like you might have hard issues

    do mean it run but will not expand files or ?

    no it wont install. the laptop runs fine and i am able to install and run any app except this its really annoying.

    I use 7zip for all my rar files (google it)

    i tried that as well as FilZip, ZipItFree and BitZipper i dont understand why they dont install, im trying to use MyWebZip.com to unpack the .Rar file its taking ages though (file is 444MB) any idea how long it should take?

    Less than a minute, tops. If 7zip can't do it, I doubt FilZip/ZipItFree/etc will do the job. Are you just trying to unrar? And are you having trouble unraring? Do you get any error messages?

    Oh and why is this in OT? Shouldn't it be moved to Windows?

    well its taken atleast 30mins, im not getting any messages it just doesnt do anything i download say WinRar and click on it to use / install it and nothing heppens

    maybe i could send the file to some one on here so they could extract the file for me and send it back?

    Well to send it back, we'll have to zip it, and what if you encountered teh same problem? After installing 7zip, are you sure you right clicked on the file, went to 7zip -> Extract here (or the option right below it, same difference)? And did you get a progress bar?

    yeah, i can unzip files from my computer but where its a .Rar file i need to use some application to extract it but i cant install them.

    What specifically happens whey you try to install these programs. You should have no trouble.

    Have you tried WinRAR Unplugged? It's a portable PE format that doesn't require installation - can even be used from a USB stick (I've tried it that way, and it does work).

    EDIT: Yes, I know what "PE" stands for, technically, but some PEs are more P than others.
