Not sure why, it was there last week, haven't had a need to turn it off til now, but it seems that it doesn't have the option to anymore. I found it weird that everytime I tried to Hibernate, it didn't turn off, it went to Stand By!
I don't know whats wrong, my HD has 13~gb of free space, should be enough? Under Power Options, there is no Hibernation tab, but under "When I <insert action here> on my computer...", Hibernate appears but even when I apply or Press OK, it goes to Stand By.
I haven't done anything in terms of installing new programs for about a month.
A Google search did nothing neither...
Hope I can get some help![]()

My Thinkpad does that from time to time too... Any pointers as to what causes it would be really nice... (I'd thought it was some kind of conflict between Windows' power management, and Lenovo's, but I'm open to better explanations

Not sure but I think if somehow u delete ur hibernation file Hiberfil.sys, u might get this issue. I am not sure though, I repeat.
Google for hiberfil.sys cleaning etc. -
Mine isn't deleted though. It's right where I'd expect it to be.

I've had this issue as well. It started happening after I reinstalled XP.
You can hold down shift when in the shutdown menu to get the standby key to go to hibernate. That is a way around it. As to why it goes away, I am not sure, but I know I made a post on it a while ago asking the same question. -
Still nothing, hrmmmm.
I'll see what happens in the next few hours, if nothing fixes, I guess I'll have to reformat. -
Free up disk space in the Windows partition,
Also delete the Hiberfil.sys It usually works.
(It seems that XP needs some extra disk space to hibernate properly) -

It appears that Windows may disable hibernation if it thinks that there is a device driver incompatible with hibernation. Did you update any driver recently?
John -
Nope, nothing of recent, except uninstalling Diablo 2 which I've had on my HD for a long time, haven't touched it once

Hmmm, found the problem. It started after getting 2gb of RAM, which is the problem.
