I recently tried out one of the firefox gadgets to download a video off winamp, initially it worked fine and I was able to expand the video screen to full or 2x with the image scaling properly with it.

Now I have this problem: When I play the same video after quitting Winamp the video refuses to resize along with the screen, essentially I'm stuck with a tiny video playing on a lot of black space in the video player.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Apparently some people have problem while trying to play FLV videos in Winamp with Winamp default settings.
    Possible workaround:

Ok this is not exactly for what you ask for, this for actually make Winamp to open FLV. But I figured if you use the default Winamp settings you may experience problems although it does OPEN it. Anyway check the links above hope it helps.
Also, if the quoted section didn't work for you check the whole Source link I gave you above...it's pretty large though sorry :)

EDIT: Oh yeah..I forgot you may have an older version of Winamp. If this is the case:

    Source: same as above.

The latest essentials pack download did the trick, however it seems closing Winamp makes it give an error message. Does this have something to do with not installing the entire set of essentials (some of which I really don't need)?

I fixed it, I had to use the directshow decoder to add the flv extension to formats for decoding. After turning off noise reduction and the equalizer the video plays properly now.

I can only conclude that Winamp's own flv decoder is unreliable and that directshow is the only way to go for some videos.

Yes, it's unreliable according to what I've found out but I thought they fixed this with Winamp 5.54....If you have the 5.53 or lower step 3 from the "guide" is about directshow.
Anyway I'm glad you solved this out
