    I have a Inspiron 8500 w/xp pro?

    My preference is win.2000, any problem loading it in place of it.

    If you format the drive you should have no problem installing Windows 2000.

    if anything you will have driver problem's(getting them and then getting one that work).

    You're fine. I had Win2000 on my server at work, and it worked fine with all the generic hardware installed. Specialized hardware will have their own drivers, so be aware of that in case you lost your driver discs.

    You shouldn't have any problems.

    1) Download and burn all the drivers from Dell.
    2) Backup all important data.
    3) Boot of your Win2K CD.
    4) Delete Win XP patition.
    5) Install Win2K.
    6) Install drivers starting with Chipset & Notebook System Software.
    7) Install at least all critical updates from Windows Updates.
