Screw Xp, bring the release candidate for SP1 Vista
-
No, no, no! Don't screw XP. Roll those dam updates into a service pack and start shipping XP SP3. Please!! Steamline XP and leave the bloat with the bloat - Vista.
-
vista sp1 rc is out as well
-
Anyone try it yet?
-
I did.... I haven't noticed any differences so far except that it reset my appearance (I had a custom theme). My 3Dmark06 is 1 point higher.

has anyone else tried it
-
i tried it, it messed up display drivers for me when i wanted to remove indexing and compress hard drive. It couldnt compress the omega drivers so my display went from 1400X900 32 bit to 800X900 6 bit.... needless to say i had to go back to SP2. Ill try to download SP3 agian

I installed XP SP3 on my desktop last night...using it right now...besides the default UI put back into place initially, I do not notice any big improvements yet...but I have not used my desktop for quite a while, and same with XP. I suppose in general boot up time was a little faster, memory consumption for me is a little less than normal (consuming 230MB of 2GB right now).
-
well whats interesting is my in my computer SP3 just droped itself back to SP2. But SP3 is still installed on the control pannel. Do you think i should worry about this ?
edit* apparently IE6 is not supported in SP3 -
I installed SP3 on my Asus C90S and I have to say that it made all my MS office applications extremely fast. However, there wasn't any "noticeable" difference with other programs. On SP2, word, excel, and powerpoint would usually take 2-3 seconds to open. With SP3, it literally took less than 1 second!
-
Just installed it... It "seems" faster.
-
Im working on getting it to slipstream. It slipstreams just fine. However, when trying to add the sp3 slipstreamed xp to my unattended installation, it causes windows xp installation to not recognize any hard drives on raid. In more detail, it causes the slipstreamed raid drivers to not be recognized during windows xp install. Im still working on it though.
-
Installed it on my older alienware laptop and it "seems" to be running better but I honestly cannot say it did wonders. It did however help out my office programs with loading and such. Other than that I don't really see any differences.

well here is a kick in the pants. When i try to go to S1 "sleep" its fine but when i wake up it gives BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER. I uninstalled daemon tools maybe that will fix
EDIT: Well i removed DAEMON AND ALCH 120% and removed the RAID driver and still i get the BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER when i resume from standby. I am removing SP3 because i think it could be the reason why. Also i am running spybot to see if it could be any crapware i have that can be causing this. -

Also, faster at what, exactly?
Anyway, sounds good so far. -
just installed RC1 myself.... No trouble so far!

As soon as its been confirmed that there is an audio fix for the C90s and SP3 RC, I'll try it out. I was thinking that maybe someone should try installing the Vista Realtek drivers incase the reason its not working is because XP is now using Vista's UAA?
-
for realtek to work install the HD audio hotfix from microsoft first

No, I don't see what bashing has to do with anything, but I don't condone false moronic arguments, whether they're for or against Vista.
However, I've heard two arguments pop up again and again in "defense" of Vista. The problem is that they don't actually defend it, they simply try to confuse the issue.
1: "Yeah but XP was just as bad when it came out". So f'ing what? No one is using "XP when it came out". We're using "XP after 6 years of patching", so that is what Vista needs to compete with. It's irrelevant how many problems XP had 6 years ago, and it's certainly not a valid defense for other software.
2: "It's not Microsoft's fault that your apps won't run. It's lazy software developers and bad driver writers". In some cases true, but again, what difference does it make? The conclusion is still "stuff that works fine on XP may not work on Vista". Whose fault it is, is completely irrelevant. It doesn't make Vista better. Vista still has the same compatibility issues *regardless* of whose fault it is.
I got tired of pointing this out *every* time someone wants to discuss Vista, so I put it in my sig. Feel free to defend Vista, but do us all a favor, and use sane, meaningful arguments when doing it.
