Finally got my new computer last week, its os is window 8 64 bit. I want to install a very old 16 bit software on it. After asking around, virtual machine is the way to go. Obviously I am new to
virtual machine so i am taking baby steps one at a time. First hoop to jump thru: need a Window XP installation CD with key.

i have an old "broken" dell insprion from 2005 lying around. it has the window xp key sticker on the back of the laptop. my question is can i buy a installation CD for the installation and use this
    key?

If this is a no, then i will have to go on ebay and see my options there.

Basically when you buy a computer it comes with the OEM version of Window and the license must be used on the Machine it's installed on. The retail version of Windows isn't tied to one machine.

Here is a place to purchase XP.
