Im in sort of a dilema and need some help.

My new laptop from HP came with Windows media center. I have no original disk and I want a clean install without the junk that comes with it.

I do have windows xp though.

    1. What benefits will I lose installing windows xp and not having windows media center that came with the laptop.

    2. And is installing windows on a laptop just as easy as doing it on a desktop?

Windows Media Center.....hmmm.....personally I think its useless unless you use your laptop to record T.V.

Well the only benefit your gonna lose is the fact the there will be no Media Center, no big deal, most people dont have media center anyways.

    2. Yes, it should be just as easy.

So then just partition the drive and reinstall?

ON the desktop i have to use my sata driver disk so it recognizes my drive.

will the laptop automatically detect my HD???

ALSO is the DV8000t guide in the forums the same as the dv5000?
