    Hi all,

    I have a DELL Inspiron E1505 Core2 Duo.

My config is as shown below

    1. 1 GB Ram
    2. 80 GB HDD (Only one partition 15 GB free)

I am suddenly getting this probelm of Windows - Virtual memory minimum too low

I was using the same configuration for about 8 whole months and it suddenly can't be the probelm of low RAMor something. I

changed the Virtual Memory settings and the system started behaving funny. What is the perfect setting/default setting. Also

is it a spyware that is causing it. How do I avoid this probelm. Sometimes my programs are closed abruptly

    Regards,
    Hemanth

No, it's due to your programs using more RAM than you have and then not having enough virtual RAM to make up for the difference.

You should at least allocate 1 GB more or so for Virtual memory. Perhaps even 1.5 GB

You shouldnt manually allocate virtual memory at all. Choose the setting where Windows manages the pagefile itself. Windows does a really good job of this so let it serve its purpose.

It's best to let Windows handle the Virtual Memory.

vaio and Matt's advice is excellent, even more so because you are having a problem. I set my page file but if I had any kind of problem the first thing I would do is let Windows manage, and if I still had a problem at least I would have a better Idea where to start trying to solve problem (clean HDD).

You asked what is the best setting, well other than let Windows do it no one can answer your question w/out knowing what Windows version you have.

try to find out why suddenly there is a growing memory need(I am assuming you have allocated enough expected swap for your system) using the monitoring tools. Letting Windows manage it is a bad idea in this case, as it is like sweeping the problem beneath the carpet.

    reread OP.

poster changed his settings and then had problems.

    it's user generated.

letting windows manage your memory is the best option.
