I seem to be having an issue with this update on my XPS 9550. I am trying to use the Upgrade Assistant to update from 1809 to 1903. (All previous upgrades have worked fine in the past on this system.) The tool downloads and prepares the upgrade just fine and prompts me to restart. After restarting it stays on the Dell logo screen for a minute or so with a spinner. Then it just shows the log in screen and I'm back in 1809. The Windows.old folder it creates during the preparation is no longer there after the restart, so I'm guessing something went wrong and it rolls back. There is no indication or message at all stating that the upgrade failed. Is there any common issue that can cause this, or anywhere I can see what exactly failed?

As far as I can tell, the only thing I didn't do was to reset bios to defaults: NVIDIA driver was most recent, all Intel drivers were most recent except Bluetooth (I have a Killer 1650 Wifi, and I have the most recent driver from Killer installed. Bios is most recent. The Intel driver check has one a bit more recent. I will try installing it and resetting to defaults.

Microsoft released KB4497935 to the Release Preview Ring and the Slow Ring on May 24, 2019. The cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 fixes several known issues in the operating system including some that prevented systems from being upgraded to that version of Windows 10.
A new Servicing Stack Update, KB4502374, has been released as well. Administrators who install the updates manually need to make sure that they install the Servicing Stack Update before they install the new cumulative update.Last edited: May 26, 2019Vasudev likes this. -
I double checked all drivers. 1903 was offered as per Windows Insider. However, I cannot find the Servicing Stack updates - and the update has now failed in the same manner 2 more times - it hangs at the Gigabyte logo, just after the first reboot. Ctrl alt del will cause it to restart, but then back to the same place. Only way out is to force full shutdown with power key - then it reboots and removes everything, reverting back to 1809. I had turned Fast Start off on this machine - but I do not think that is the problem. I would have thought that the Servicing Stack would have been included in the update via Windows update. When I check for updates, it starts downloading 1903 again.
Any thoughts?

After updating many drivers, and removing Samsung Magician (suspicion), I have tried several more times with the same outcome. So, I thought I would download the ISO and try that. I was able to download it to a USB drive. I had some difficulty in getting my computer to boot from the drive, but when it did, Setup loaded - then wound up telling me it couldn't run from a USB. So, I went back into Windows and tried to run setup from there (as instructed), only to get the message that the upgrade cannot run on a computer with a USB device connected. I will try moving files to an internal disk, but do not have a lot of hope for this.
I ran it from a folder on my SSD, and it ran to the same endpoint. Error message said it failed during first boot - Error 0xC19000101 - 0x30017. I will look to see if any information concerning this error - usually, the error codes from the MSofties are very nonspecific and unhelpful (like "it didn't work". Arrrgh!Last edited: May 29, 2019 -

I have dell xps 15 9550. I never manually updated any updates ever manually. I never done any bios update ever. Had this laptop for close to 3 years. Reason not touching bios is because i heard you can brick it.
But few times when i turn on or off laptop, i gotten message of windows updating and then showing the percentages etc and then it updates itself. So whenever i see it updating when i click shut down my laptop, i let it update, then it turns off.
Will any of this be an issue when i update it to 1903? I have last year's 1803 windows update which i did last year. Update had zero problems. But does this mean i can just go the update my usual way? -

Several bios updates (security related, labeled critical) have been issued by Dell.
Anyway, none of my concern.Vasudev likes this. -
