    Thanks, i've been using O&O SU10.

Is there a way to kill the Cortana process in task mgr? I kill the process but it pops back up.

Changelog of 1.4 (although I'd never use this tool as it doesn't give me the option to custom choose the stuff I want to disable. I like to be in contr0l)

Sounds to me just another company that thinks they know what we want. Will they ever learn that we can think on our own...

as I said earlier, O&O ShutUp10 is the only app to do this that I trust. Coming from a reputable company, allows me to choose any custom settings I want, and is one of the only apps with no malware injected to it.

Just making sure. If I want to do a clean install of Windows 10, I'd have to have a Windows 10 production key, right?

No, you can always skip the key entry and install Windows, iot will work for 3 days only though until you activate it with a genuine key.

What does being able to skip the key during installation have to do with this? and I already stated that you can skip the key entry during installation or you can enter it, up to you.

Not that I would use Windows 8 or 10 myself though.

did you mean that after 3 days I still have to use a Windows 10 key to activate? I'm using Windows 7 right now and I have a Windows 8.1 key so I thought maybe in the future I'll just install Windows 8.1 or 10. I saw your thread about the thing that make you be able to control update and stuff in Windows 10 so I thought that might be nice to update to Windows 10 then use that software.

I did for a few days but then I just went back to Windows 10 as my stupid Logitech C920 HD Webcam doesn't work well in Windows 7. Keeps saying the device is unknown and has malfunctioned even though I installed the drivers. This is due to the crappy Windows 7 USB Drivers to be honest.

But don't worry about me, I know how to tame Windows 10 just fine ;)

IIRC it was posted in one of these clean installation threads. In a multi drive system it was mentioned to only connect the HDD that you are installing Windows because Windows Boot Manager will tend to mess things up, which has been the case with me in the past.

How do you tie the different HDD's together when booting the system, so you can choose which drive to boot from?

I don't understand your post but what I do is I disconnect all drivers but the one I am installing Windows on, after the installation is done, I connect the other drives and manage the driver letters accordingly in Disk Management. Everything is mentioned in the guide.

My bad, I left out that each HDD would have it's own OS. I have 3 separate HDD's in my gaming rig and each has it's own OS.

NP, same rule applies, only 1 HDD when installing so the boot files will only be installed on the drive pertaining to that OS.

This way when you ever need to image using some utility like Macrium Reflect or whatever imaging utility you like, when it makes the backup, everything is contained in the backup. Otherwise if the boot files were on another drive then when coming to restore you might render your OS bootless due to the missing boot files. Also, if one installs his OS an SSD and the boot files were on the other drive which may be an HDD, then his boot time gets affected and becomes slower as the boot files are on the HDD. So it's both for performance and reliability.

Why Micro$h4ft place the boot files on the 2nd drive even if it was an inferior drive like let's say an HDD ever since Windows 7, 8, and now 10? Because the people who created the Windows Installation just decided "oh hey, let's do this to mess with these people's computers and make like more complicated for them"

So how do you boot between OS's? Do you unplug the the drive(s) you're not using and boot from the primary HDD only?

Simple, I never install more than one OS. In fact, I never install more than 1 program that does the same thing. One Browser (Firefox), one media player (PotPlayer x64), one file restoration utility (Active@ Undelete Professional), etc.

So I choose my OS, tweak it to my liking, and be done with it. It's enough headache managing one OS, let alone multiple OSes........ask yourself why do you need to multi-boot? What can you do in one OS that you can't do in another? Just my 2 cents worth.

Higher Fire Strike Score with Win 8.1 :p. Then you should run dual boot with Win 7 and 8.1. Without Fire Strike benchmark = No Win 8.1 and no dual boot. Pretty easy... LOL

I have certain genre games on separate drives as well as games I bought that require an internet connection. I prefer dividing up my games on separate physical drives rather than using a second HDD for game installs because it invariably screws something up on the primary partition. I've also found that i've run into less problems separating my games on separate drives and OS's and performance tends to maintain itself better.

I just downloaded the personal/free edition of EasyBCD. Will give that a try and see if I can link the separate OS's and create a multi-boot environment. From the product description, I should be able to.

I see, too complicated for my liking personally.

    Here is my drive setup:

C: (OS) = 1st partition of my Intel 750 1.2TB PCIe SSD which is 300GB
D: (Games) = 2nd partition of my Intel 750 1.2TB PCIe SSD which is 700GB (OP by 25%)
E: (Data, this is where I keep my drivers, ISO files, etc.) = 1st SanDisk Extreme PRO 960GB SSD which is 700GB (OP by 25%)
F: (Users, this is where I keep my documents, pics, music, videos) = 2nd SanDisk Extreme PRO 960GB SSD which is 700GB (OP by 25%)
G: (Videos, this is where I keep my movies) = 4TB WD Black HDD
    H: (Pr0n) = 6TB WD Red HDD

Or just hit F12 (or your BIOS's equivalent) at boot, and select the drive with the OS you want to boot.

There was a story about a tractor trailer who got stuck underneath a highway overpass. The police came and had a look, city officials came out and had a look and for hours they pondered, how to free that stuck tractor trailer and no one had an answer.

A little boy shows up on his bike and asked those same officials what happened. They explained and told him that it was a difficult and potentially complex situation working the truck free. So he asked them why they didn't let the air out of all the tires? You can guess the rest.

Sometimes we look for the complex answers and overlook the obvious. Thanks for the obvious and easy solution. :)

    Happy to help!

I've been using this method recently to boot between Ubuntu, Win 8.1, and Win 10.

In my books, Windows 8 is not a real OS, it is the biggest disaster in history so I personally wont spend a minute creating a guide for it.

I would like to ask (which is probably a stupid question, but I don't want to be an idiot to create more disasters to my laptop, so I'll ask anyway)

For windows 8.1 users like me, who have options to "upgrade" from windows 8 to windows 10, how can we do the same things that you've written on this thread? Is there any way?

Upgrade to Win 10 so this junk OS being activated for your hardware. Download an iso file of Win X HE from Microsoft such as the guide says. The alternative is to continue using Win X He after the upgrade from 8.1. But this is not recommended.

The "purging all metro apps" powershell commando from this site http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1870618 which was linked in another Win 10 thread was / is awesome. I used the recommended 10 Apps Manager and deinstalled everything, still, I had leftovers under the tasks in the settings, 50-100 kb pieces without a name and a symbol, one even was 12 mb big. Using the powershell-sript fixed all of those entries, and I now got a fully clean Windows 10!

Can you please list all the apps that you uninstalled and the proper commands that need to be run in order to completely remove them so I can add it to the guide? I usually remove all metro apps with the exception of the Store app

    I'll try my best:

I actually cannot tell exactly, which apps I uninstalled, because I ran the following powershell-command:

    Code:
    Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage
    Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage –online

I got some errors when running it, but that was probably only because I already had tried to uninstall them via "10 App Manager" , which as written didn't work properly.

There is a different command from the same thread in the hardforum, that purges all apps except the Windows store, which may be better, because the Windows store allows to easily re-install them. I don't care about that, because I'm sure that there will always be better 3rd party solutions than the Windows ones, but for those interested, here again the powershell command:

    Code:
    Get-AppXPackage | Where Name -NotLike "*WindowsStore*" | Remove-AppXPackage
Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Where DisplayName -NotLike "*WindowsStore*" | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage –online

The credits for this go to svet-am .

I assume, that I uninstalled the following apps:

    Microsoft.BingWeather
    Microsoft.Windows.Photos
    Microsoft.WindowsCamera
    Microsoft.XboxApp
    Microsoft.WindowsAlarms
    Microsoft.SkypeApp
    Microsoft.ZuneVideo
    Microsoft.ZuneMusic
    Microsoft.WindowsSoundRecorder
    Microsoft.WindowsPhone
    Microsoft.WindowsMaps
    Microsoft.People
    Microsoft.Office.OneNote
    Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollectio
    Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub
    Microsoft.BingSports
    Microsoft.Appconnector
    Microsoft.3DBuilder
    microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps

This assumption probably is correct or at least very near to the truth, because those are the apps Win 10 has after a fresh install (source: hardforums) . I now got 0 apps on my PC except for Cortana, which uninstalling is almost impossible (or at least very tricky) , so every program I got on my PC is either one I installed myself or a basic Windows task. I still got Edge, so that's also an exception similar to Cortana.

I like the system very much like it is now, feels very clean and performs definitly faster than before. I'm not sure, if I also should convert to Win 7 again though, because I read how concerned and unhappy you were / are with Windows 10, so I'd appreciate opinions. Actually my only argument to stick with Win 10 currently is, that it's free, that it's new, and that it allows me to run UEFI. I'm not sure if I'll ever play any DirectX 12 games, DX12 ofc. is the best and main argument for Win 10. I currently think that Win 10 can simply be tweaked to be like one wants, and if that's true, it either already is or will be better than the previous Windows' .

You have the option all the way to 29 July 2016. And maybe longer. Why such a hurry? DX12 is not an option either yet. New is not the same as better ;). http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/decreased-ssd-performance-in-windows-10.779854/

    @ Papusan:

I understand your opinion, but I don't want to set up my OS newly again two more times, if I can prevent it. The semester is starting again now, and it took me almost a week to get my system in the state that it currently is. Ofc. I'd be a lot faster setting up Win 7 and maybe even 10 afterwards again after all the experience that I gathered, but I'm searching for a good solution. Win XP afaik always stayed better than Vista ever was, if 10 is the new Vista, I should do everything to stick with 7 and run it until my Notebook has no life left anymore. However, if 10 is the new 7, then I should be glad that I switched.

Currently I don't see, how 10 could be worse than 7 in the long run. New may not always be better than old at the moment of comparison, but if everything new gets developed for Win 10 like I assume atm., then 10 will beat 7 and everything before in the near future. If 10 however is flawed from the start and the people stay with 7, if the developers keep making drivers for 7 and not make them exclusively for 10, then 7 might stay the best Windows OS for the next 5y.

I don't know if this is understandable :/ . Maybe it's really like you say, and I should revert to 7 for the moment, watch the developement on 10 and switch at the moment at which it surpasses 7, but is it so hard to make a prediction about this at the current time? People (afaik) saw very clearly, that XP was superior to Vista and also that 7 was better than XP, how good really is 10 and how good is 7? Does 10 actually have any real advantage except for maybe DX12 in one or two years?

Please don't bro, this is only for people who are stubborn and want to install the latest and not so greatest. Everytime I try to give it another shot, it turns out to be a big fail either performance wise, aesthetics wise, or pure sick of the half settings/ half control panel that will soon all be merged into Settings and no more control panel.

Windows 7 FTW but if you must, then this is as good as Windows 10 can get after fixing :)

I'm doing round 2 of an experiment with Windoze OS X Crapware. So far (day 2) LCD isn't bricked yet.
For anyone that wants to do a clean install without affecting their Windows 7 or 8.1 installations (I am triple-booting W7, W10 and Mint Linux 17.2 Rafaela) you can buy Windows 10 Pro for $20 here. I bought it yesterday and the key activated without my intervention.

Your tireless dedication is inspirational. Thank you for all of your contributions to this community. If Windows 10 ever reaches the point of not-sucking, you will be among those we can thank.

@Matrix Leader - I have not read everything here yet, and what I have read I need to review (cannot remember all of it).

Have you tried DWS Lite already? Thoughts?

I haven't but WZOR is a popular guy @MDL Forums and is the major Windows ISO leaker on the internet and is trusted as the ISOs he leaks are untouched / leaked from MSDN so I would trust this d00d.
I didn't need to try it because O&O ShutUp10 has served me well with not a single issue all this time but I will give it a shot.

Ok, just tried it for you and here is my mini review...........since I believe a pic is worth a thousand words...enjoy.........

I used it last night when I installed Windoze OS X for experimentation with the LCD EDID corruption. Seems to work fine. Has quite a few options for emasculating worthless "extra features" that should have been left out of Windoze OS X.

Edit: yeah... worthless feces METRO apps being permanently deleted without any possibility for recovery is pretty sweet. That's what I'm talking about. The only one I use is Weather, and I would not use that one if it were not so cute looking, LOL.

Yes I just tried it and there are no traces of those metro apps.

Please leave the weather for your mobile device bro and let's focus on making Windows a real desktop OS. Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

Want another reason why you may want to delete it? who the heck knows if it sends your location to Micro$h4ft or someone. Not that they may care, but this thread is all about making this disaster a working OS with 0 privacy invasion.

As bad as this OS is, one of the major disasters in history in every aspect, aesthetics and privacy, I was determined to make it work. Why? because at the end of the day, I have a small hope in me that DX12 might make a difference, and because I want pure UEFI boot. :)

I'm just being silly. Most people that like Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 is because it looks pretty in their eyes. It doesn't need to offer anything of value if they think it looks pretty, because that's all they care about, LOL.

Compared to Windows 8.1 the performance is close to the same. Compared to Windows 7, it sucks something fierce. I like the idea of using a Micro$loth product that has been severely beaten, castrated, had it's eyes poked out and ears cut off. There is something about undoing all that they intended for selfish and unethical purposes that I find attractive even if I never actually like the product. It's kind of like, " Oh yeah? Really? *BAM* [insert name of hack] How do you like them Apples, Micro$haft?"

But, sooner or later they're going to kill Windows 7. Just like NVIDIA screws up drivers to cripple last generation flagship GPUs to try to get people to buy new. Would not surprise me if the Redmond Mafia moves up the timeline on all but Enterprise just to try to force adoption. They've already gone over the top with retro deployment of the malware to 7, 8 and 8.1... writing is on the wall... they view themselves as being God's gift to the tech world and don't even realize they suck at their job, and they don't care what anyone else thinks about it.

So, those are a couple of reasons why I have it installed again. It is also why I have Mint Linux 17.2 Rafaela installed. I need to build my knowledge and skill set as a Linux user so I can be less dependent on the Redmond Mafia. If gaming actually ever takes off on Linux and it ever offers good support for stuff like SLI, I'll just run Windows in a virtual machine when using it is unavoidable. I am not there yet and neither is Linux. Linux will likely never be good enough to actually replace Windows, but there is a limit to how much nonsense I'm willing to put up with from these retarded monkeys.

I agree. Although, I must admit some people's tastes are very difficult for me to appreciate. Windows 8 and 10 do look like a cartoon vomit bomb when off inside your computer. I can hardly wait for the final version of AeroGlass for Windows 10 to be released by Big Muscle. That will help a lot with the abuse of tacky pastel-colors and white crap.

Wow, almost seems prophetic. So, it looks like almost everyone will end up being Micro$loth digital concubines, and if we don't go willingly to their bed of filth it will be through force. They were already doing it, but now it looks like these self-absorbed ne'er-do-wells are getting bolder with another round to try to molest those that resisted their first wave of attacks. Maybe there should be laws against remote-access digital rape.

Well at least in Wincrap 10 you can easily disable telemetry but in 7 or 8 if an update slips through or is camouflaged then the user has no choice but to give Micro$haft the data they are seeking so might as well use 10 and tame it.

I certainly feel sad for the people that want to stay on Windows 7 and 8 and haven't taken the appropriate same steps, as I have, to keep their systems completely free of all traces of Windows Update cancer. Being willing to screw with Windows 10 to see how much I can use and abuse it in ways that they do not want me to use it does not mean it is a good product. Unless there is a miraculous epiphany on their part and they do something to make this piece of trash special enough to change my mind, Windows 10 will remain my optional/disposable OS in a multi-boot system with Windows 7 exactly has been the case with Windows 8/8.1 trash OSes. They didn't with Windows 8/8.1 so there is no reason to expect the same retards will have any better luck getting it right on the fourth try. (Yes, Windows 8, 8.1 and 8.1 Update 1 and now 10... four consecutive failures with marginal improvements between each version to make them more similar to Windows 7. Hard to believe they are actually this stupid.)
