Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Hits RTM Ahead Of October 17th Launch
Microsoft has completed work on its Fall Creators Update for Windows 10. As of build 16299.15, the Fall Creators Update reached RTM (release to manufacturing) status, which is the final code that gets doled out to OEM system builders so they can pre-load PCs with the final version for day-of-release availability. Everyone else will be able to get their hands on the newest update starting October 17.
Windows Insiders can get the jump on everyone else by downloading and installing the latest build. It includes cumulative security and feature updates and will serve as the baseline OS install until the next big update arrive. Barring any changes in strategy, Microsoft has committed to releasing two major upgrades to Windows 10 every year—the Fall Creators Update is the second one for 2017.

One of things Microsoft is pushing with the Fall Creators Update is mixed reality experiences. It has partnered with several third-party hardware makers to ready lower-cost mixed reality headsets based on its blueprint. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung are all on board with mixed reality headsets that are available to pre-order from the Microsoft Store. As to how prominently gaming plays into all of this remains to be seen.
The Fall Creators Update is also the first to incorporate elements of Microsoft's Fluent Designlanguage. This includes subtle (and some not-so-subtle) performance and user interface (UI) enhancements, such as smoother transitions, easier resizing, and so forth. It is a step towards modernizing the look and feel of Windows 10, without completely revamping the OS.
Some other changes include streamlining system settings, better transparency in regards to privacy controls, security improvements, better Cortana integration, smarter storage (OneDrive Files on Demand is being integrated into Windows 10), and of course improved security, to name a few of the things headed our way.

I take it "better Cortana integration, smarter storage…" really means harder to get rid of

There are a lot of new features and improvements to look forward to in the forthcoming Fall Creators Update for Windows 10, including OneDrive Files On-Demand, My People, Story Remix, Power Throttling, new UI for both the Start and Action Center, a lot of Edge and Cortana improvements, a currency converter in Calculator, new emoji, and more.
If you’re thinking of joining the Windows 10 Insider program, or you just want to do a clean install with an up to date version of the Fall Creators Update, the good news is Microsoft has released a new ISO image.
The image, for Build 16296/16278, is available for all Windows Insiders, and you can download it now.
In order to download the ISO, you'll firstly need to join the Windows Insider Preview program (if you haven't already), which you can do here.
Once signed up and logged in, go to this page to grab the download. Select the edition you require from the drop-down box, and click Confirm. Select the product language, and click Confirm for that. You can then choose a 32 or 64-bit download. -

Improvements I felt as a user? Nada!
Annoyances: default programs is gone from control panel, now it takes you to the PC Settings Default Programs which is very limited as to how you can assign a program all defaults
3D Objects folder now appears in your libraries even if you have 0 apps from the Store that deal with 3D Objects, but I posted the fix for that in the Windows 10 Tweaks thread
Windows Firewall has been renamed to Windows Defender Firewall
The Windows Driver Foundation has been removed. No big deal as Windows always used to set it back to manual rather than automatic startup mode for security reasons so that's one less thing to worry about -

So will they have a ISO where one can burn to USB or DVD to use? I made a USB install with
Microsoft Windows 10 Creators Update ISO 1703. Will this be the latest update? And will this work with my digital upgrade Key? Does anyone know about this last part? -

@Dr. AMK, I didn't like what happened and was very unhappy when that happened - lucky, I had backups of which most people don't have if this snafu happens. So anyone reading this if you have SSD/NVMe drives remove all SSD or disable the UEFI Sata controllers and unplug any Sata cards cables to avoid wiping out drives that contain your precious info. For desktop with multiple drives this is a must and for laptop that is much harder unless you unplug the SSD drive itself if yours have both SSD and NVMe connections. I don't know why Windows 10 can't just format to the NVMe but it's a pain the a55 to do so you don't screw up your drives.
There is a link about this: But I thought it couldn't happen but it did. This is something that most should be inform when buying a NVMe drive but you know they want your money but fail to tell you what would happen in SSD and NVMe drive configurations.

If you have an Acronis image I think it will recover all old partitions for you.
I have a funny/sad story with NVMe, I was upgrading my Clevo P870DM-G with NVMe, and I lost my motherboard when I'm installing the Windows without any reasons, just black screen and I can't see anything, I tried everything without any success, then replaced the motherboard and then I have it work again. Sometime the problem is not the NVMe or Windows, unstable BIOS/firmware sometimes causing such a problems.
Let me know if you recover your old partitions successfully with Acronis, Good luck. -

I installed the update today; and I thought I would never see the day when Microsoft finally fix their DPI scaling problems :O ... But it happened ... it really did ... My fonts look like a modern day computer and not like a crap machine that crawled out of the 90s.

@MahmoudDewy, that's good to know but what I want is a ISO to create bootable USB that I can trust will install and not give me grief about it. And did you get the "Control Panel" where it would be or did they still bury it? I did find the link but will download it tonight and create a USB with rufus software and later plan to redo the system. I'll use my laptop as the first guinea pig for this project before going to my Desktop.

My laptop just got updated, and despite having disabled automatic driver update, it installed the latest version of nvidia driver.

Well did a CU update and it found my Dell 1525 iNtel 965 driver...and well the webcam that something else...still looking into that...

When I clean installed 1709 on the DM3 sold to @Dr. AMK the only driver needed was the Fingerprint reader. When I clean installed 1709 on the Tornado F5 sold to @skyFox90 it did not need any drivers. Everything worked and there were no devices with errors in Device Manager. That's all kind of nice and good, especially for people with minimal technical knowledge, but I still have a difficult time accepting the overall ugliness of the UI and Micro$oft's so-called Start Menu. Both of those things are very disturbing and disgusting to me. It seems like they are messing things up intentionally. I don't like tiles or apps unless they are on a smartphone. A third party Start Menu fixes that, but the absence of AeroGlass transparency is pitiful and that is the final touch that ruins the already tacky aesthetic for me.

Well here goes, I did a complete wipe and clean install of W10 CU fall onto my NVMe drive removing all other Sata drives to prevent the problem from before. And there is a definitely change when using the NVMe drive the startup checks are the same but the part when it goes to the Desktop is noticeably quicker and load time is fast once completed. Now I don't have the lag time when going to drive to drive and or clicking on folders as I did with my dying SSD drive but also NVMe was built in my board so it frees up the Sata connections. Also, Acronis 2017 when used to create the backup image and restore works like it should unlike before if I tried to use the image made from the SSD to NVMe that failed not sure why but maybe because how it formats a NVMe and SSD drive lost something in the restore image that was needed for NVMe that the SSD image didn't have to make it work because when I did that it didn't boot. But after a long and boring and tired Fresh W10CU fall install no hiccups so far so I can say it went without much problem-it did update after I complete the CU install but so far everything is working smoothly right now. I did install all the same software and same setups as before and doesn't seem to be any glitches that I can so far see. So, my advice if anyone has both NVMe connections and SSD drives remove all the SSD drives and leave just only the NVMe drive - format it and update the W10CU and after that reconnect your others drives. I had like 14 HDD, 1 SSD to reconnect not fun but was necessary to prevent my HDD archive drives from being wipe clean since they contain data/file that are important and losing them wouldn't be fun.
Update: I did loose the "control panel" as I found out but with a free program it restored the "control panel" back not sure what bone head move or which bone head so called IT person thought doing this helps anyone.Last edited: Oct 25, 2017
