So I had a laptop with a Windows 10 Pro license, now I ordered a new laptop without a Windows 10 key

Mind you, I have previously logged into my Microsoft Account in the old laptop just to have my key registered to my account but the question is, now when I get the new laptop and install Windows 10 using that same key, how do I go about activation? Will I need to call Microsoft (phone activation) or would I need to login with my Microsoft Account to activate it on the new laptop?

What's the best way to go about this?

I won't be using the key on the old laptop

I found this, I don't know if it would do the trick: http://www.groovypost.com/howto/transfer-windows-10-license-new-pc/

    That looks like fun :)

By your description, if it's a Retail Boxed Windows 10 Pro key (not an OEM key), you can do their method to move the license to new hardware.

Please let us know how the procedure works for you.

Then that's probably not transferable, even though you registered it with an account, it's still bound to the hardware.

Double check with MS support to be sure.

let's see, I'll try. Worst case scenario is I'll just buy a key from HIDevolution and have them send it to me via email
