So I installed the latest Redstone 4 Public Preview.

Here are some changes to the PC Settings:

    Initial Impressions:

    1) Restart shutdown is much faster

    2) The OS feels much snappier

    3) Still buggy, in Redstone 3, right after a format, when you go to PC Settings Privacy > Background Apps, the whole PC Settings crash, that only happens once.

In Redstone 4, go to PC Settings, Personalization > Themes, and it crashes the PC Settings, not once, but every single time.

It baffles me how Microsoft even after many preview builds, can't get the most basic of things to work

Ok my VPN stopped working, it just won't connect to any location. I use hide.me

Ok I managed to connect the VPN but using OpenVPN not IKEv2

Insider preview always was snappy and faster than public releases.
As for #3, did you disable Settings from being in background? That bug is present on my phone since ages (2 y.o)
For now allow all apps/UWP apps like Files,Settings to be in Background. You see, in MS's terms background apps means whether the app will quit working when you hit back button or use Win Key+D or use your mouse/KB to switch to another Application/task.

Try using Dism++ to cleanup WinSxS, .NET assembly cache, WinSxS temps and Log files. After that, compile netfx assemblies using ngen update or ngen eqi /silent
Path is here for x64: C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework64/v4.0.30319/
    For x86: C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v4.0.30319/
See if it works for you.

Run it after Cleaning up to avoid Windows Update clogging WinSxS.

I never used it and never worked for me. I used the ISO from MSFT's Insider page and verified it against Insider Preview ISO for near precise repair.

scrap all that, when I posted this issue on the MDL forums, here's the reply:

Microsoft cannot even getting something as simple as PC Settings to work even after 100s of builds / betas.

Here is how I feel right now after nuking my stable Windows install and trying this build:

So, the poopalicious RS4 has just a little more corruption than RS3, eh? Why is my surprised look not on my face? Nice to see that the Redmond Nazis are still struggling to find their butts with both hands. These losers have demonstrated conclusively that they are too incompetent to do anything right. Abject failure upon abject failure upon abject failure from W8 forward.

My new turdbook for work is supposed to be here today to replace the pathetic Lenovo Thinkpad T430 that I have been shackled to since that dinosaur was new. (It was a piece of crap brand new the day I got it, LOL.) Thank goodness we are continuing to use Windows 7 Enterprise x64. So happy it does not have W10 on it.

and what's worse, now nVIDIA Forces you to use the latest Windows 10 Build, if you try older builds, the latest drivers won't install with an error message that it's not a supported OS, as if you were trying to install them on something completely different than Windows 10

Well, that's pretty stupid. The Green Goblin has lacked integrity for a long time, but it seems like they're just getting worse now. I wouldn't waste any time playing with their digital feces. Burn those calories doing whatever you can to help cause Micro$loth to fail financially. Time to knock over their house of cards and let them kiss our hind ends.

Let us know what happens if you run these commands as admin and reboot...
    Code:
    bcdedit -set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

    bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

Try replacing that chiclet T430 keyboard with the 7-row T420 keyboard and EC flash it.

    Yes, please.

They permanently disable Driver Signature Enforcement and force the Legacy Boot Menu so you can press F8 at startup to access Safe Mode, etc. I've been using these commands to turn off the filth since W8 and if RS4 has a problem with any of these commands I will not even consider testing it on a scratch drive.

It's not mine and I would get in trouble for doing that to company property. Plus, the thing is such a pile of garbage that nothing would ever make it worth keeping. I've totally despised it since the first day they assigned to me when it was brand new in 2012.

I'm so glad I am finally going to be rid of this miserable pile of trash laptop. It has ruined my morning every day, 5 days a week, for the past 6 years. I find it so hard to believe that the bottom-feeder laptops sold in 2018 still have worthless 1366x768 screens like this piece of crap.

Maybe @j95 can fix the new version restricted drivers.

Oof and you even got the 768p screen

Most corporate buyers don't opt for the upgraded screen option and it makes people have bad impression towards the brand.

Though the 1600x900 option still sucks (I know it sucks because I'm using it right now).

Did you get the model with or without NVS gpu?

The T430 has the NVS GPU and internal air card.

I am thankful the Latitude 7480 arriving today has a 1080p screen. But, it has a wuss-boy i5 dual core turd CPU just like the T430. Getting 1080p and getting to keep W7 are both upgrades that I am happy about.

OMG. Why in the hell do you have Secure Poot filth enabled? Please turn that retarded zombie feces off in the BIOS and try again, pleasure sir. If your BIOS has an option for it, delete the Secure Poot keys in addition to disabling it.

This will disable the watermark on your desktop unless that is also broken in RS4.

I have secure boot disabled on bios but using pure UEFI on GPT partition.

Not sure if I should run the bootmenu = legacy

There's also DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS, not a typo but I'm not sure which one works (compared to disable_integrity_checks). Run both to be sure I think.

Am curious here too, would like to find out.

Did the driver install for you after running the commands?

Huh? The driver issue I was complaining about was if you are on an older build, let's say RS2, then the latest nVIDIA Drivers won't work. No problem with RS4.

As long as you have the latest Microsoft Telemetry OS, nVIDIA and Intel are happy to allow you to install their drivers.

Good news! Yes, it absolutely affects you negatively, whether you know it or not. It limits your ability to do whatever you feel like doing with Windoze OS X, with hardware, drivers and software. It blocks you from running whatever OS you feel like running as well. If you have it enabled, Windows 7 and some versions of Linux are non-functional. It is an integral part of the Redmond Nazis' evil plan to force all people to comply with all of their edicts.

    @Mr. Fox @Papusan

This is what I'm doing now since Microsoft Just released a new build 17107

Downloading the UUP files then I will convert them into an ISO to do a clean install [IMG]

    End result = 17107.1000.180220-1350.RS4_RELEASE_CLIENTCOMBINED_UUP_X64FRE_EN-US.ISO

Trying the clean install if this latest build, what's strange is it loaded my RAID array right off the bat without me having to load the IRST driver, seems like Microsoft finally got it that many people are on RAID and has a RAID driver built in which is v15.44.0.1006

    Stay tuned for more

Launching the old classic default programs via this shortcut no longer works, it now takes you to the gimped PC Settings Default Programs menu:

How to restore the classic Default Programs Menu

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update removed the old Default Programs which gave you full control of which file extensions each app controls. Now it just takes you to the PC Settings crippled version of it which gives you very basic controls.

Here is how to access the old default programs menu:

    1) Right click on your desktop and select NEW > NEW SHORTCUT

    2) Paste this command in the location bar:

    Code:
    explorer shell:::{17cd9488-1228-4b2f-88ce-4298e93e0966} -Microsoft.DefaultPrograms\pageDefaultProgram

    3) Hit next, then give it any name you want, I called mine Default Programs

    4) Place that shortcut anywhere you want, I put it in my Start Menu

Work Clasic Shell without problems in Redstone 4 ?

And this will be the result from Windows 10 (Redstone 5). 5 points lower, and it wil most likely be linear crimpled performance. Aka 5 points lower for each OS Build, not bad at all :D You started at 971. →966→961→956 osv :p Maybe you can compensate a bit with higher clockspeed?

I am deciding to go Linux and finally remove W10 CU and migrate to older version or newer Insider releases which are BTW much stable and works out of the box. I had great luck running WINE 2.x which loaded Windows binaries 100% faster than W10 could.

Phoenix Brother, never use ESD to install W10 because it has strange file corruption and I always use WIM images for better reliability.

Windows 7 is made by winners, for winners. Windoze 10 is made by weiners for losers.

I gave up on Redstone 4 for now. Formatting right now and installing flinstones 3

On Redstone 4, my built in mic doesn't work and the VPN rarely works

That must be very disappointing. Maybe a couple of these would help calm your nerves. Fits with the Flintstones theme.

Any drivers conforming to WDDm 2.0 and above will work on RS1 and above redstones.

I'm on 1607 RS1 Enterprise though. Some programs say that I'm running on W8/8.1, maybe the enterprise version makes a difference.
