Hey everyone, post whatever issue(s) you noticed after upgrading or clean install Spring Update.
For me, major eye-sore was Timeline/Task view crashes Windows explorer the moment you click on Task view or Hit Win+ Tab key. Set defaults apps is buggy. Random desktop freeze on Optimus system.

All the issues of Windows 10 version 1803 you may run into-Ghacks.net
Major issues
- Microphone not detected anymore? Sound settings or features not working? Check Settings > Privacy Microphone and test if "Let apps use my microphone" resolves the issue.
- No microcode update to protect the system against Spectre attacks. Microsoft released updates only for Windows 10 version 1709 and earlier and has not incorporated the updates into Windows 10 version 1803. If you installed the update on the PC in an earlier version and ran the update afterward, you will notice that the PC is no longer protected. Tip: run InSpectre to verify.
Other issues
- Check Telemetry data collecting settings under Privacy > Diagnostics & feedback to make sure that they have not been reset.
- Microsoft Edge won't start. A reset does not help. (my issue)
- Mouse acceleration and movement seems different to before. Also, reports of mouse lag.
- Right-clicks on programs in the Taskbar don't display the context menu.
- Slow Alt-Tab performance when tabbing out of games. Fix: disable Focus Assist in the options under System > Focus Assist.
- Some users report that a new partition is created after upgrading that they can't interact with. I did not experience this, but you may want to run Disk Management to remove it or hide it. If that does not work for whatever reason, use a program like TestDisk to remove it during boot.
- Speaker enhancements may be reset after the upgrade (speaker properties)
- The regular Start Menu does not open at all on a system with Start10 installed. Not sure if this is caused by Start10 or something else. (my issue)
- Thumbnails no longer generated for (most) MKV files.
- Users report that they can't change the "feedback frequency" setting under Privacy > Diagnostics & feedback anymore. On my system, it states "Windows Insider Program manages this option" even though the PC never joined the program.
-
Didn't know there were lot of issues.
BTW, AWCC is slow as snail now. I switched back to Creators MR Image file and AW CC is snappy. I guess its time to kill off AWCC. -
Still having the same stuttering/mini freeze (opening/closing window/program) issues that were there since build 17133. Not as bad in 17134, but still there.
It also has moments where it'll still take its slow-ass time auto-connecting to my wifi network -

My 17Xr4 updated with the new MS spring update, keeps crashing even though it installs fine, reboots, applies all the updates and once i log back into the desktop, the RIG BSODs, with some ddkmd.sys error.
1) SSD, RAM and GPU (79710M) have been stressed, nil errors found.
2) latest bios A14 applied, which updates for the spectre issues
3) If i do a go-back on the update, machine boots, and nil errors (incidentally also have backups of pre-MS spring update)
Thing is i don't really want to to do a fresh reset as i have games, and settings applied in win10 that work perfectly and it's setup with all privacy options enabled like i need it). I am also past the era, where i would format and reinstall everything on the first BSOD, so if there are any ways around this, advice would be appreciated -

Upgraded bricked my cheapo SSD in my Cube Mix Plus. Completely rendered it useless not even read mode, all data lost.
During upgrade it just literally froze the pc and only hard switch off was possible, on attempted reboot, was dumped to EFI shell.
Tried to recover with Linux and win10 install usb stick, Nothing...
Swaped out SSD with another, reads fine as it should, so definitely the SSD bricked. (used live Linux for diagnostics)
Sure it was some cheapo SSD but still... Whole tablet was replaced less than a year ago.
Was working fine before update and had zero issues.
Ordered new SSD for tablet but I'll be sticking Linux on it instead... -

Patch Lady – early trending issues with 1803
Posted on May 1st, 2018 at 15:06 Susan Bradley Comment on the AskWoody Lounge
I’ll be updating this post with trending 1803 install issues I see and potential resolutions:
I will note when an issue is expected and when (to the best of my knowledge) it’s not expected.
- Home group removed: Known and expected: Microsoft has removed this from 1803 and recommends alternatives: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4091368/windows-10-homegroup-removed
- After 1803 seeing several reports of recovery drive being assigned a drive letter. Not expected. Workaround: Use Diskpart to remove drive letter.
- Alienware laptops and desktop users are reporting issues with the upgrade. Not expected. Workaround: Per page 3 on this forum. Remove Alienware update and digital delivery utility and just leave Alienware command centre and Alienware onscreen display. Alternatively you can download from the media creation page, when it proceeds to “creating media” disconnect from the Internet and it will prevent it from downloading drivers and will get past the 49% mark where the install gets stuck.

Ok, when did Phoenix the great GP from Planet M become a fiend? -
Apparently Chrome and Cortana cause lockups in 1803. Also apprently some others do too. MS is working on a fix apparently, hopefully out by May 8th for official release.
https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/3/1...pdate-chrome-crash-freezing-problems#comments
That explains it, I was pulling my hair since late April wondering why my laptop would randomly freeze, even did a fresh install after official release thinking it was a corrupted install, then I thought it was the switchable graphics. Only way out of the freezes was to put it to sleep and come out. The Ctrl+Win+Shift+B to reset GPU driver didn’t work.
What a god awful job they’ve done with 1803 missed feature targets for some of the more major changes like tabbed Explorer and other UI improvements which were moved to the upcoming October release, which you would then think means more focus on stability and performance of current stuff. After the Windows team reshuffle recently and more focus on Cloud they’re really dropping the ball. Atrocious...
EDIT:
Update from Intel on their forums confirming a Patch Teusday fix from MS.

While it’s still early in the rollout cycle, the new and hastily released Windows 10 April Fools 2018 Update, version 1803, build 17134.1, has delivered more than its fair share of bugs -- many of which are tied to Microsoft software.
Where we stand
These problems are just the tip of the iceberg. Frequently, with new Win10 versions, it takes a week or two for the big problems to present themselves in a way that we can isolate the cause of the problem. Right now, the general background scream rate is just way too high.
I have a favor to ask. If you downloaded and installed 1803 – either intentionally, or by curiously clicking Check for Updates – could you please tell me why you did it? I know some people can’t resist sticking their fingers in the pickle machine. But with all the warnings – and instructions for blocking the update – why would you knowingly install an untested version of Win10?
Unless, of course, you did it unintentionally.
ProTip: You have 10 days to roll back to your previous version of Win10.
Thx to Susan Bradley for her Win10 1803 upgrade “trending issues” megathread and all of the people who took the time to run down their problems.

Paid OS is a rip-off. I reckon in 2022, most first world people will be moving to Complete Online OS aka Cloud OS with just dumb hardware like ChromeBooks that can switch between work, play, movies etc.. and not worry about OS upgrades or App incompatibilities. Apple, Google, Amazon, MSFT,IBM etc will be happy as well. No ISO, No hardware issues and best part is OS is named Skynet Cyber Dfense Tech as a Service.Mari1225 likes this. -
This great info!!! Thank you all
A couple issues on 1803 build 17133.1 :
No powershell, it just flickers the screen and never works...
No Microcode patch spectre yet......
Cannot set defaults by app, cus it crashes
BSOD a few times tho random... I cannot seem to isolate the issues... I have not seen the issues since a few days ago, I have removed old drivers, did mem tests and took off some firewall app...
Bonus maybe.... Boot time is 9.3 secs ....
Fingers crossed I just stay here with no more issuesIll wait to update to next win 10 disaster till after there are fixes maybe for the current issues lol Plus I cannot have my Chrome freezing up OO I use it too much for work.

Was up till 4am tring to disagnose what is screwing up my windows store. I start with a fresh image taken of just bare (oo-err!) windows, basically followng Guru @Phoenix clean install guide.
Everything is happy biscuits untill I put the machine online. It complains about the lack of a microsoft account (I made a local account) once I enter that, the store goes crazy trying to download/upgrade itself - there is a store update. Which just seems to stick on downloading, pending or spinny blue circle... cant install apps from store at all and now the damn thiong wont even open.
I've spent the last day rebuilding and trying to find out if it was one of my apps/drivers causing the grief..... I am no wiser.Spartan@HIDevolution and Vasudev like this. -

Looks like a complete rebuild is in order, I'll do the tweaks once everything is set up.
At least I have an up to date set of drivers lol.Last edited: May 8, 2018 -

Windows 10's April Update Crashes Systems with Intel SSDs
This is the payback time after people was forced/tricked into Win 10. Windows Store is more important than a working OS@Phoenix what a trash Windows OS has become.

Got it going. Must've turned something on/off I shouldnt have.... no idea what though. -
Surface Pro (2017) owners hitting Win10 1803 update blue screens. Now we know why.
Microsoft and Intel now agree: If your machine has an Intel SSD 600p or SSD Pro 6000p, don’t force it to install the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, version 1803. Surface Pro 2017 owners with a compromised SSD have an extra hurdle: bad advice. Surely someone tests these things, don't they?
As Win10 version 1803 rattles through the unpaid beta-testing phase, it’s snagged another victim — Intel’s aging SSD6 solid-state drives. Both Microsoft and Intel now admit that running Win10 version 1803 on Intel 600p or Pro 6000p is a recipe for disaster.
Some Surface Pro (2017) models ship with “bad” Intel SSD Pro 6000p drives. Customers are complaining about freezes with Win10 version 1803 — and the Microsoft support folks don’t have a clue what’s causing the problem. Now we know.
Win10 version 1803 has been in beta testing for centuries, in internet time. The “final” version, build 17134.1, entered the Windows Insider Fast ring almost a month ago, on April 16. In a jumble of mixed-up build numbers, Win10 version 1803 has been officially pushed since April 30. Why did it take so long to figure out that the 600p and Pro 6000p cause problems?
Surely somebody at Microsoft and some other body at Intel must be testing these things, right? @Phoenix most Guinea Pigs use Samsung 960 Pro ?

After the update yesterday, I had no sound as microphone was selected, easly fixed.
I always keep webcam and touchscreen disable, they were enabled after the update, I disabled them again.
This morning my pc froze at the HP logo, boot screen, no hdd activity, I did a forced power off, and then my pc booted fine, problem seems to be caused by a bad shutdown, the windows reliabilty log showed the error below.
"The previous system shutdown at 22:27:10 on 11/05/2018 was unexpected.!"
I noticed a windows.old folder on my root c drive, so i used windows cleanup including system files and found windows.old as nealy 27gb in sizeand delete it.
EDIT: I also found my network hdd was not showing up, even though network discovery was enabled, I had to manually enable some network services that were disabled.
This update is a real pain.

I fixed the Timeline or Task View which triggers __Win_explorer__ restart, was caused by me when I changed Connected Device Platform User service from auto to manual in services.msc and NTLite.
Hopefully I'll integrate the new update and ISO will be uploaded to Mega for Public use. I have integrated Dx and VC++ runtimes. -

I used the spectre microcode patch and the inspecter checker said i was fully protected, I just check the app and it says i am no longer protected for spectre.
Has the latest update removed the spectre protection?
Should i run the spectre microcode patch again.

NEWS ANALYSIS
Win10 version 1803 incompatible with Toshiba solid state drives, too
It now appears as if Micro$h4ft didn’t test the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, version 1803, with its own Surface Pro (2017) laptops, with any machines that use Intel SSD 600p or SSD Pro 6000p drives, or with any machines that contain Toshiba XG4, XG5, or BG3 series solid state drives (SSDs).
@Phoenix You need buy several brands ssd's... Not only go for Samsung for your "helpful and very needed" GP testing
