Okay so lately, my laptop dell xps 15 9550 which is a 5 year old laptop is lagging a lot. I notice that in background processes when i go to task manager, there is tons of programs there.
Is there a way to remove processes that you do not need? My laptop is extremely laggy.
Specs of my laptop are
i5-6300hq
32gb ram
1tb nvme ssd
I see a ton of background processes like
COM Surrogate
COM Surrogate
HD Audio Background Processes

After I restart my laptop, I made sure to not have any chrome windows opened or anything.
I click task manager and this is what I see.
Do you see how there is so many repeated programs like
HD Audio Background Process
Samsung Magician
Runtime Broker
Also many times certain programs like 1 or 2 of them will suddenly increase CPU % usage for no reason. Then it goes back down. Again this is how the task manager looks after restarting my laptop and having no chrome windows open or anything.
What is causing all this lag? Thing is not long ago, I had updated samsung magician. And now that program doesn't even open anymore. You click to open it but nothing loads. But could that be cause of this? -
Well, go to the startup tab and disable anything you don't need on boot to desktop.
Run msconfg and go through the services / disable them as needed.
Add / Remove programs to zap anything that's out of place. / not needed.
If you're still not happy then just reformat / install Windows to purge everything. Maybe go do a virus/malware scan to check for anything that got past whatever you're using. -
The thing is how do i know which programs i don't need at startup?
Also do you see any programs in task manager that i posted which could possibly cause this? -
If you keep running that crap it will keep compromising your system.
You're looking in the wrong areas....see how much ram malwarebytes is using ?
Wipe the system and don't do that online poker thing ever again and you'll be ok.
If you do online poker it will screw you over....every time....guaranteed.Spartan@HIDevolution and Mr. Fox like this. -
Just click the startup box in task manager and disable what you don’t need. See how it pans out. Another good tool is Autoruns.exe

Did you run in Windows SafeMode with NetWorking to verify it's not the O/S but Malware causing this? That's what you should do first and then find any program in your install that shouldn't be there and remove it. That's what you should first do here-this is how one finds suspicious programs that shouldn't be there or they didn't install. Also is this OEM install factory or Custom O/S install?

This is what i been doing for many years. The programs i download are those main online poker sites ... so those do not have malware. -

Would a windows defender full scan show if its an issue?
I have windows ten pro.
Well I play online poker as my income... so I have to have those poker clients in order to play. Again many people who play do this. You can't play like on a webpage etc. -
I did the windows defender full scan... took 3 hours and no threats.
Here is the other thing. When I closed all my chrome tabs... previously it showed me using like 800mb total in chrome in task manager... after I close it and my other programs and have nothing open... i noticed memory was still at 30%. This is after closing all my chrome tabs and everything. What I also notice was the calculate i had opened... it was showing 65mb ... which is ridiculous. When i tried to open calculator few times, I noticed it took a long time and lagged to open each calculator.
Then after I closed every program, I noticed
Antimalware Service Executable using over 100mb.
Desktop windows manager using over 60mb
Windows Explorer using over 30mb
Previously I had noticed all these 3 processes... many times they use even higher mb. So could these 3 processes be possible reason for the lag? Also I had noticed everytime i open Openoffice, it never opens correctly. Always an error and it does this each time so it takes a long time to open 2 openoffice documents. I always have these 2 openoffice documents opened whenever i turn on the laptop. I had noticed when i tried to close these openoffice documents... almost always it shows not responding to one of them...then eventually it closes.
So these things have to be the reason for the lagging?
Also I noticed when i had tons of chrome tabs open... i closed all of them except 1 chrome tab. And that chrome tab was just a web page that doesn't do much. So i figure the chrome mb usage should drop from 800mb all the way down to very little. Instead it was still very high like 800mb. So is there some issue with chrome as well? -
Dude, just stop.
Your computer is hosed.
Get it ???
HOSED.
Wipe it and reinstall.
Take a real good look at how it runs before you try putting that lame arsed poker game trash back on (oh because I know you're not smart enough to leave it off).
Look at this, the first hit from googling online poker malware
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-34289003
Now just stop trying to get around the facts and opening however many threads you've opened due to the same exact issue.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
I will run it in windows safemode soon. I haven't done this in a long time though but never did this on this computer. But when I do this... is there any issue since i have a bitlocker password? So basically i have to type in my bitlocker pin... then i would get into safe mode?
Also I did a bit of googling on this windows explorer issue and apparently if you have icons in your desktop that have no image and are broken... this could possibly cause this? Because i have several.
Poker Client
Crash.checkpoint blank file ,
Desktop
CLogFile
So would it be fine deleting all these in recycle bin and permanently deleting it? I just moved it all to my downloads page for now.
Thing is that poker program, i dont mind uninstalling and reinstalling it. I just removed the program and deleted it off my desktop and recycle bin.
Also the crash.checkpoint file... I must had that file in my on desktop for a long time. When I click on, it ask me
How do you want to open this file
Look for an app in the microsoft store
More apps
Check mark always use this app to open .checkpoint files... so onlly thing i could click on is on look for an app in the microsoft store.
What in the world is this?
The same with this icon called desktop... which has like an icon where itslike a blank document... but with like a circle thing to the left. When I click on it, it opens desktop-notepad
[ShellClassinfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21799
I have another file exactly like this in my downloads where it shows 21798.
What do I do with this?
Also related this, every single time i turn on my laptop, i get message
Red X Mark dwm.exe
Aero Glass For Win 8.1+ Incompatibility issue
Your system version is not supported by this version of Aero Glass. Continue Anyway?
Retry/Cancel
So each time this happens, I click Cancel
Then It Shows
Red X Mark Aero Glass For Win 8.1+ Incompatibility issue
Aero Glass does not know how to hook your version of DWM (0x7FF3).
Do not report this because this is not a bug.
Retry/Cancel
I click Cancel
I remember few years ago I had this same error message each time i start up my laptop. I fixed it by doing something but a while later on, I got this message again. Could this be related?
Then i have this filed called CLogFile where when I open it
It shows this
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Read Thread Before ReadFile handle 208
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Start Read Thread
Date Time Start Read Thread ReadFile handle 210
This keeps going on... there is literally like a thousand plus of these lines. So do I delete this? What in the world is this? -
It's like a bad dream that never stops isn't it ?
