Why does Windows 10 constantly bug me about installing it!? I don't want Windows 10. If I wanted Windows 10 I would install it. I said no to you a million times from your annoying little popup in the system tray. If you were a person you'd be arrested for stalking and have a restraining order put against you. How many times do I have to say NO!?
And on top of it, it puts Windows 10 Home as an optional update. OK fine. Well this time it is auto-selected. So if I went to just select the important updates and didn't bother to look at the optional ones, it still would have wasted my bandwidth and downloaded and bugged me to be installed.
WARNING TO ALL NON WIN 10 USERS: *** CHECK YOUR OPTIONAL UPDATES BEFORE COMMITTING TO INSTALL UPDATES. ***
Microsoft is forcing people to consider alternate OS's because of this. Why do they think this is a good thing? It's a bullying tactic, like a real pushy sales person. I feel like my paid version of Windows 8.1 is nothing but a trialware for Windows 10.

They are pushing every trick in the book to get machines upgraded. They can not have this stagnation this early on of W10 growth. It is much easier to implement these predatory practices than too admit defeat and give the consumers what they want.

Microsoft must have invested heavily in stock or shares of some paid Linux package or Apple because they sure don't want people to buy their product. OK, wait, it's *FREE* right!? Yeah... right.
What makes matters worse, my mom was watching a shopping channel yesterday and selling a laptop and of course the hosts were raving how great Windows 10 is, blah blah blah. Clearly they didn't know much about it, but all these uninformed housewives/husbands/elderly that watch this drivel and buy it or upgrade thinking it's the best.Last edited: Oct 14, 2015 -

It's stuff like this that is going to make me stick with Apple for my next notebook purchase.

Same thing happened to me earlier and i was about to report this
I checked Windows updates a hour ago after installing updates and i see Windows 10 auto selected in optional updates and im like what the hell!. So basically Microsoft is trying to force everyone that has Windows 7/8.1 to upgrade to 10 without even knowing it while installing other windows updates at the same time. I dont want windows 10 at all, if i wanted to install it i would of done it!!!!!. I make the decisions what to do on my own laptop, not Microsoft........................

I keep my P79 with all updates just so I can see these issues. I get the same thing, it keeps wanting to update. M$ needs to be punished harshly.

More bad news, you cant hide the upgrade at all like other windows updates, if you do and check for updates it magically returns autoselected again on optional updates..........

@Mr. Fox @toughasnails @HTWingNut @TANWare
Microsoft no longer lets you opt-out of a Windows 10 upgrade
Note: Unless offcourse you take all the pre-cautions to not install the updates mentioned in this thread ( Updates to hide to prevent Windows 10 Upgrade / Disable Telemetry ).
But for the average joe out there, Windows 10 is a mandatory upgrade! First they tried the free way, it didn't work, now they wanna force it it down everyone's throat.
I have a feeling my mom who lives in England will call me soon and be like why is her computer not working properlytoughasnails, hmscott and HTWingNut like this. -
My guess here is this heavy handed approach is finally going to catch someones eye. At least I hope so.

Fine a mistake, as a corporation you have to pay for them too! Now that they have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar they should no longer be able to offer the update through windows update, period.

Now maybe it does not seem so ridiculous that I frequently refer to Micro$loth as Nazis, Gestapo and Mafia, LOL. Most people don't realize how bad the Redmond Mafia really is. They absolutely, positively, do not care about what anybody wants. It's all about them being god and deciding for everyone. We are but peasants, not customers.

I Would expect normal marketing. Fact is it's a relief to see that they're actually doing that.

Advertising in the Start Menu is atrocious as well. Sure, offer a free version with advertisements, but paid versions should be left well enough alone. Period. This is an *OPERATING SYSTEM* not an *ADVERTISING PLATFORM*.

We must also remember we are trusting all that previously secure data that was just only in our systems to a company that just claims it makes a mistake and simple eradication of such for the future is good enough!

I think it awfully suspicious that this has happened just when Stats Counter has issues and is not reporting OS percentages properly. They are stuck at W10 @ 8.57% as their servers are not all reporting properly. If you refresh it you can get even older results as even the servers calculating the data are having issues.
Edit; what should the official name for this be, CheckGate?
Edit 2; Some of the servers became unstuck as on refresh it is now 8.65% for W10.Last edited: Oct 18, 2015toughasnails and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.
