As much as I find myself disenchanted with windows 10 as an OS. It's still my daily driver. So i'm looking forward to them properly patching the specter bug for better performance. I lost nearly 8% of my multi-core performance to the current patches.

I dual boot so I can do everything meaningful with Windows 7. For Time Spy, Fire Strike and VRMark Cyan Room (the only things Windoze OS X is actually actually good for) I use Windows 10. Not much reason to use it otherwise.

My ZBook came with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed. I'm not dual booting that system since it is too anemic for any kind of benching. So, I bought another Windows 7 Ultimate key on Kinguin.net and wiped out that garbage OS. The ZBook is a much better product now, and no drive space is being wasted on the cancer OS.

Yeah, can't really blame you for that. I'm just a little short on drive space to do that. Plus I do enjoy having DX12 available for my games that use it. I do keep my old desktop on 7 Pro for reliability and legacy applications. Anything else i just run in VirtualBox.
Frankly if i could get the few Quality of life improvements native to 10 to run in 7 id probably switch back myself.

I wonder if part of speeding up your PC involves removing 'unnecessary' files again?

It could boost performance the most by removing itself.

Let's see this another way, I guess Msft added Retpo which is included in Ubuntu/Linux subsystem.
Hey, Install Q4Wine GUI and run Cinebench R15 at full force. Initial startup takes little longer. I got really low score of 667-678 w/ Spectre enabled. On W10 w/ spectre I get 630-688.

So they can finally say that W10 has improved over the year! apart from deleting user data, breaking stuff at each update and forcing people to update their drivers even though the ones installed are working great, fast OS > stable OS. Smart microsoft

I remember it, but never really had any use for it. I've also never liked using SkyDrive/OneDrive/Dropbox clients and refuse to use them. I do use cloud storage, but I manually upload files that I want on the cloud and do not allow anything to sync automatically.

I have never liked using any Linux distro as much as I really wanted to switch to Linux because the moment I install Linux, nothing works out of the box, no VGA Drivers, not even wireless drivers so I can get started to download my stuff.

I just tried booting off a USB of Zorin OS after you mentioned it here and what do you know, it has WiFi and was super easy to get into! It even detected my Canon Wireless printer and installed it automatically without me having to search for any drivers. Wow! This is something I am going to explore very eagerly now...

Its simply based on Ubuntu 18. You need to download latest ISOs every 3 months.
Did you try Linux using RAID?
One word of advice, never use intel gpu for better battery life since it gets borked after nvidia driver updates and you need to be on nvidia GPU for drivers to update correctly.
Stick with Linux distro with Ubuntu base for better security and peace of mind.
A patch to get 1550 card to work correctly https://askubuntu.com/questions/1016903/alienware-17-r4-ubuntu-16-04-wifi-driver
