Hi guys,
My university gives me a free copy of Windows 2003 Server (though MSDDDNNAAA -- I don't how many repeated letters it is, way to many MSD.. acronyms by microsoft) and I want to run it at home as a terminal server so that I can run my old 486 machine with Windows95 via Remote Desktop.
Now, I haven't installed my copy of Windows 2003 Server because the machine I'd install it to is an important, heavily used computer. My question is, can I install Windows 2003 Server on it and run it as a workstation while the remote desktop service runs in the background (and users using live sessions)?

Yes. Though depending on the hardware it might slow down a bit.

great! Thanks for the quick reply. I actually have WindowsXP Pro SP2 doing this now and it works great! So I may just leave it and not bother with Windows 2003

There's really no advantage to going to Server then.

I'd stay away from using Server OS's on laptops - we've had problems trying to do that at work - such as, hardware problems (video card not detected properly, etc.)

yeah, i had a friend install 2003 server on his laptop and it was nothing but grief (and his opengl gaming was HORRIBLY SLOW -- probably cuz he didn't have it installed or enabled, which is enabled by default in windows xp). i wouldn't consider it. when i was asking about making my xp machine a server machine, i was refering to a desktop.
