I have a Dell laptop on order, and I need to install 32 bit Windows7 Home Premium on it (because I have some 16 bit applications I need to use for work). I posted this on the Dell forum as well, sorry for the duplicate...

One of the items on the config page is:
    Module,Software,Certificate Of Authenticity,W7HP32/64

    However another one is:
    Module,Software,W7HP64 Consumer Desktop,English Dao/bcc

So does this mean I have the license to install W7HP 32 bit, but just not have the media for it? Anyone did this before? How do I get the media for 32bit? How does this work?

    Thanks guys!!

What kind of 16bit apps? Is there any chance you could use DOSBox or something similar?

And yes, if I'm reading what you said correctly you do have the license but not the media. There's a link to legal downloads of the Windows ISOs on the forums here, use the forum search to find it.

Thank you; I saw that thread, I guess I should just download the iso, make a bootable disk, and do a fresh install. I need to download the x86 version right? Is that the 32 bit?

Regarding the apps; they are some legacy project scheduling programs for work, including Primavera P3; which are 16 bit apps...

Thank you both. I hope this works out ok when I get the laptop tomorrow...

64-bit is basically the one you want. I'm not sure it's in Windows 7 but in Vista, some 32-bit components couldn't run on 64-bit, so watch what you're doing.

Suffer, could you please explain? I am not sure what you cautioned me about...

Regarding the Win 7 image; shall I just copy that to a DVD disc? Anything special I need to do to make it bootable?

Ok, the MS tool can burn a DVD image as well. Cool. Anyone try the MS tool with any other image to see if it works?
