    Hi guys,

I've been infested with all sorts of issues over the last couple of weeks with my Alienware M17 R1 (pre-dell).

My latest issue that's been bugging me is, my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 says No hardware virtulization when it was yes previously.

Tried using different tools and they all say no.
    - havdetectiontool = no
    - securable = no
    -VMware-guest64check-5.5.0-18463 = no
-Intel Processor identification Tool = no

The strange this is, I ran these tools before and they said yes! I also had installed serveral VM images that're 64bit. Never saw this VT not enabled issue until now.

    System spec and details:
    Alienware M17 R1
    BIOS: W840.028 (previously B14)
    Processors: Core 2 DUO CPU T9600 @ 2.8GHz
    8GB RAM
single HDD (at the moment...issues with RAID 0)
Windows 7 64bit Ultimate with SP1 and all latest updates.

I've tried to reflash with B13, B14 and finally upgraded to W840.028.
Reflashed with W840 couple of times and still the same.
No where within my BIOS (W840 or B14) I can 'enable' VT.

I just cannot figure out how this is possible. How can the above tools show that my system was capable just a couple of hours previous and not now.
I have a strong suspicion that MS updates have something to do with this as I've been reading about MS removing checks for h/w virtualization for XP mode.

Please help as I'm at the edge of sanity at this stage...

    TIA

    Can anyone help on this?

I've setup Windows7 x64 on another harddisk on the same machine and when I ran the above tools I got YES for all of them re Hardware Virtualization!
How on earth is that possible?

Something installed on your original config is interfering with the virtualization. What have you installed or changed since it worked? Since a fresh install works it's not hardware.

    Cheers,
