Have an old asus u45jc-a1 laptop. It has been complete reinstalled a while back. Im using it now for very little since i have a main computer. I wanted to know, do i need to have the asus operating CDs in order to do a complete reformat of my asus laptop?
Because at the moment, i don't know where the CDs are. But could i do this without the CDs? Or would i still need a windows 7 key? But that should be in the bottom of my laptop in the sticker right? Just want to make sure if i need the cds or not. I recalled i had 2 CDs. One was the asus windows 7 CD and the other was the asus utilities cd where you install drivers and webcams etc...
I rarely use this laptop but in case i have to do a complete reinstall... i like to know if i need the CD or not. Im sure i dont need to get the asus utilities cd since that could be downloaded on asus site. But what about the windows 7 though?

As long as the Windows 7 version match your Product Key then a standalone install with Asus drivers will work but mismatch the O/S and the Product Key will not work. Otherwise you need to contact Asus to order the Factory Recovery media to restore the system.

Download drivers here: http://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/U45JC/HelpDesk_Download/
You'll find Windows in my signature. The Windows 7 download instructions may not work for long so you'd better download what you need while you still can.asval likes this. -

As SL2 pointed, get the drivers and have them ready, then install Windows 7 using the below method, choosing the corect version as per your license key, as in Home, Pro, or Ultimate

How are you supposed to dl from the windows page when the Asus product key doesn't work and it tells you to contact Asus?

it doesn't work anymore for any product key, let alone an OEM key
would you like me to upload the untouched ISO for Windows 7? you want Pro or all edition installer?asval likes this. -
I couldn't see SL2 links before since I wasn't logged in, I'm trying his method now and it's dl.
Sure if it's not too much trouble, I've been trying all day to install windows on my SSD with nothing but failure. Apparently my copy of windows 7 Pro 32 bit doesn't play nice with my Asus home premium 64 bit code and it wouldn't let me activate it. I'm guessing what I need is the all edition installer which works with all versions?
Sorry for slight thread hijack
although it's a related problem.

0k I'll upload the All Edition installer.
Basically this is a genuine rip of my Windows 7 PRO DVD, the only modification I will do is use the eif.cg removal tool to unlock the ISO so it becomes an all edition installer.

SL2's dl worked flawlessly.
Posting from my newly installed OS in my SSD while I upgrade using phoenixs guide and some minor tweaks for my k53ta.toughasnails and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.
