Ok, got a strange one here.
Ever since I re-installed GTA IV, I have gotten 2 BSOD's (this never happened when I had it installed on Vista).
I looked in the Event Viewer and looked for the last Critical event, and it said the source was "Kernal-Power".
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly".
I also checked my TuneUp Utilities, and under System Status was a problem saying:
"Windows reports that device Smart UAC Replacement Kernal Part is not working properly".
I already checked for viruses, and have not installed any new software/hardware after GTA IV. (Yes, the game is legit, I have the box and CD's for proof).
I have included my .DMP file.
I don't know how to open .dmp files, so I just uploaded the original one in a .ZIP.

After some Google'ing, I ran into this post:
Hi.
I has the same problem, and I resolved as follow:
Go To ->
Contol Panel
System and Security
Administrative Tools
Schedule Tasks
Under the Active Tasks panel, I had a task named "RacTask" scheduled to run 1 hour after the power on.
I noticed when the time to start that task comes, my computer reboout...
So I disabled that task, and my computer don't reboot anymore now.
Seems a joke that the RAC service who is the responsible to check the reliability of the system, was the cause of the reboot
I have a "RacTask" on my Task Scheduler. Could this be the problem? Mine ran 11 minutes before I got the BSOD. -
I don't like the looks of that one...ractask feeds data to the reliability monitor...if it is having difficulty doing that it points to another deeper issue.
The dump file does not point to a specific driver, but to VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE, which is often hardware related. Is the machine in your sig the machine in question?
Turning off ractask may be masking your real problem. -
Yes, the one in my sig is the one I play on.
I have never had any issues before, and never any BSOD's.
The 2 BSOD's I got both happened while playing the game. It has never happened at another time.
I also checked my temps while playing, it never got above 90°C (GPU). -
The lack of issues doesn't mean it is not the card--only that other programs do not use the gpu the same way.
I'd be inclined to check for game updates and video updates (which I suspect you have already done)--maybe force a few more blue screens and upload some more memory dumps. -
I kept an eye on the temps as well, nothing different there.
This BSOD never happened on any other games too, so I am waiting it out to see if it does it again. -
Then I am inclined to a small game error that only gets called in rare instances. Probably will get addressed in a future patch.
-
I am running it on compatibility mode right now, so maybe that will fix it. The BSOD's don't happen every few minutes, it's about a few hours, and kind of at random times.
Hell, as long as it's getting BSOD's while playing one game, I can live with that.
Thanks for taking a look into gerry. -
I've been playing 14hrs of gta since patch 6 on win7 x64 No BSOD so far ...
I hope its not your notebook, but indeed a rare flaw in the software
NB: i'm having the steam version -
Never have gotten any others since I installed Win7 about 8-10 months ago, and it only happens with this game at random times.
