I have been configuring Windows 7 to run on my ASUS F3Sa over the weekend. I was pleased to see that Windows 7 installed a driver for the fingerprint scanner in my notebook. Then I was surprised to see that a Biometric Devices applet is included in the Control Panel. After registering my fingerprints, I am now using my fingerprints to login to Windows 7.

Here's the amazing thing: the fingerprint scans are far more clear than I was able to obtain through the ASUS software that came with my notebook. As a result, I can login with one finger swipe. This is a big change in the direction of ease of use. With the ASUS software included with my notebook, I would often swipe my finger 10-15 times before a successful login. The scans always looked muddy.

I am curious why ASUS couldn't adapt the straightforward TrueSuite app included in Windows 7 and distribute it to their customers?

I almost never used my finger scanner, but when I did use it my scans were clear and it only took one swipe of my finger (until I messed up my finger tip one day lol, good thing I registered more than one finger)

I honestly cant say what the problem is for you, but be happy you found better software now.

I wont use one anymore, I see it as a larger risk than a gain. Its not hard to type my password, and if you put in some crazy long hard to remember password instead and tie it to your finger, what happens when you do like I did and mess up your finger prints and cant log on?

Also in theory if I was a random person and stole a laptop, I would have no idea what your password was and not be able to figure it out, but I could probably manage to steal your finger print off a key and use it on the scanner. Its not hard to do I tested it after hearing about it. Just a photo copy of my finger print taped to anybodies finger worked fine, it even works on none laptop devices too that cost lots of money.

Oddly enough, I am unable to register my fingerprints with Win7's biometrics app.

I see the risk logging into windows with biometrics but I found it so useful, binding multiple different website passwords to fingerprints, made it so much easier to login and to a point more secure. With 15 or so different sites requiring them there's a greater tendency to rely on relatively few pw's for access. With biometric software I was able to have a unique password for each individual site.
Having said all this, getting this software to work under windows 7 64 bit so far has been frustrating. Been trying to get Persona Fingerprint Software 4.11 to work and not having any luck whatsoever.

Ah. Looks like I'm in luck.

    False-positive.

The fingerprint scanner is still inoperable.

What exactly happens? Have you tried deleting the fingerprint reader's driver and reinstalling it again?

I couldn't get the Asus fingerprint app to install so I'm using the True Suite application for the Authentec fingerprint scanner on my Asus M70Vm, not had a problem so far, besides it not seemingly working after resuming from sleep, and occasionally not working at all from a cold boot but I believe that could be due to my fingerprints, although I had no problems registering them.

I am using Authentec Fingerprint W7 64bit (file name V2.0.0.45_Driver_V2.0.0.4_logo_Win7_64) with my F3Sa. I found this driver package on the ASUS website for Germany. CLICK HERE. After installation, I configure this through the Biometric Devices applet in the Control Panel. It works perfectly! It even works after the computer cycles through hibernation and sleep power management.

Incidentally, I find a lot of up-to-date drivers and apps on the German site in comparison with the main ASUS support site.

I use Protector Suite 2009, which came with my comp on Vista. For Win7 I got the drivers and all the stuff off the Sony Support site.
