I have an HP Envy 14 Spectre, and have been having an issue with the brightness buttons ceasing to work after I plug in the computer, put it to sleep, and wake it up again. I can still change the brightness manually in power options, but the f2/f3 brightness keys won't function until I go into power settings, change the "choose what closing the lid does" to "Nothing", close the lid, and open the laptop again. Even then, it's only a temporary fix. Is there a long-term fix for this problem? I've searched the internet pretty extensively but haven't found anything that works.

    Thanks.

Does the Fn keys require special software from HP to work, if they do, it might be the culprit. If that is the case, you could try reinstalling it or installing a newer version if there is one available.

I read conflicting reports about which driver was responsible, so I ended up downloading and installing the latest graphics drivers, which didn't help, so I updated the BIOS, which also didn't solve the problem.

Yes, the part of my post where I described "go into power settings, change the "choose what closing the lid does" to "Nothing", close the lid, and open the laptop again" is basically what that solution is, but it's not a long-term fix, which is what I'm looking for.
