Seems like there is no way around it. To install that update yet prevent the windows 10 upgrade, either download the updates manually using the Simplix Pack (original thread = http://forum.oszone.net/thread-257198.html ) which installs all updates minus the bad ones OR

[Fix] Windows 7 Keeps Checking for Updates for Hours

then do this via Group Policy Editor:

I read all of those links. Every update seem to have Windows 10 upgrade preperation. I don't want any of them at all. Have you done this yourself too?

How the hell did Microsoft think when they did this. When you do a clean install you need too update afterwards. It seems that you have to update manually before you can get rest of the updates and that is just so stupid. **** Microsoft!!

I never use Windows update anymore on Windows 7, just use the simplix pack regularly and turn off Windows update

you cannot PM me or Mr. Fox because we disabled PMs.

Don't worry too much about it, I've seen that error a few times. If you go hunting for Event Log Errors it the errors will never end and you'll go crazy.

The only thing I cana suggest is update OR downgrade your IRST Driver and/or reinstall the NVMe driver if you are not in RAID mode.

I just finished a crisp and clean Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installation on the 960 Pro in my Z370/8700K desktop. I fought it for a day and finally got help with some system driver tweaks from Fernando at Win-Raid forum. After integrating the 300 series chipset, RAID/AHCI, USB 3.0 and 3.1, and NVMe drivers, the installation went with no hiccups. The only "unknown device" items in Device Manager were the Intel ME and ASUS WiFi drivers.

I am attaching a zip file with these essential Z370 system drivers to save others the hassle of searching for them. You can integrate them into your ISO with MSMG Toolkit.

    [ Download: W7 x64 Z370 Chipset/USB3.0/USB3.1/Intel RST RAID+AHCI/NVMe Driver INF files]

I am uploading the ISO now. When it is done I will post a link here for anyone that wants it.

Thunderbird has an option for not downloading attachments:

    For POP accounts:
    1. Go to the Disk Space category for the desired account.
    2. Make sure Messages larger than ____ KB is checked under To save disk space, do not download:.

Enter the maximum size for messages you want Mozilla Thunderbird to download automatically.
    • The default 50 KB will let it download most messages that have no or just very small attachments but avoid almost all other emails with files attached.

Regedit.exe fail.Could this have happened after stopping some services or dependencies? I'm getting "The application was unable to start correctly. (0xc0000142)". I noticed it after Disable Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Wasn't trying to blame the Malicious Software Removal Tool--just didn't know if I did something wrong. I can still run regedit from the command prompt. Speaking of the tool, am I supposed to enter the "Don'tOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001 into the registry?

Just copy/paste the below code (without the word CODE in the beginning) in a Notepad TXT file then save as Disable Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool.reg

Make sure you save it as a *.reg extension and not *.txt then simply double click on the file you just created to merge it with the registry

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT]
    "DontOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001

That's nice. Somebody actually made a good decision? At Micro$lop? Wow.

Either way, I am good. I don't use their updates for the most part anyhow. As long as I can activate Windows 7 and Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB I will be in good shape. I have no plans to update either one at this time.

Update: For installing Windows 7 on machines with the latest CPUs:

Want to install Windows 7 on your new PC? chances are that you have one of the later CPUs (ie. Skylake/Coffee Lake) which are not supported by Windows 7 and the original Windows 7 ISO does not have the necessary SATA/USB Drivers so it won't even be able to detect your drives for you to install Windows 7 on it.

With the ASUS EZ Installer, you can simply insert your Windows 7 DVD or direct it to where your Windows 7 ISO is located and let it do the magic. It will create a bootable USB Drive for you that includes Windows 7 and integrates the necessary SATA/USB 3.1 drivers and from then on you will be able to install Windows 7 on computers that sport the latest CPUs.

    Download = https://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/EZ Installer/HelpDesk_Download/

Note: For an easier method of downloading the latest AND safe Windows 7 updates without the bad updates which introduce telemetry or nag you to upgrade to Windows 10, consider downloading the Simplix Pack = https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...egrate-hotfixes-into-win7-distribution.45005/

Yes, pretty hard to trust these goons with a new ISO at this point. Likely full of Trojans.
At first blush I was kind of excited, but I'm wondering if I am not better off to just stick with what I have, which is a known good product, rather than risk contracting digital STDs from these digi-pimp crime bosses.

If they have Meltdown and Spectre updates, I will have no part of that filth. I'm fine assuming the risk to continue having a product that performs as I want it to.

then avoid downloading these new Win7 ISOs Mr Fox because not only they include the Meltdown & Spectre fixes, they include a bunch of win7 "telemetry" patches like KB2952664, KB3068708, KB3080149 although they could be uninstalled afterwards from the Installed Updates section of the Programs & Features control panel (believe me, I actually downloaded one of them and checked the contents myself) - these ISOs have Aug. 2018 (KB4343900) rollup update integrated/slipstreamed

edit: any Win7 SP1 monthly rollup update in 2018 (KB4056894) & beyond will always have the Meltdown & Spectre updates

on the other hand, they do include Internet Explorer 11 & .NET Framework 4.7.2 already integrated and also have Uninstall options for those

not only that, Ultra Male did not even mention the updated 32bit/x86 ISOs as I found this

Trust me, I had every intention of ignoring their presence. I was certain they would contain the Micro$loth spyware and cancerous security filth, and for that very reason I had no intention of even downloading them. No point in it. I will carry on as I always have. What I already have now works exactly as I want it to, so no need for the new ISO files. Anything "new" from the Redmond Retards is going to contain digital STDs... guaranteed.

True, but you always have to add that since USB 3.0 did not exist when Windows 7 was released. Kind of stupid Micro$lobs didn't add it though, seeing they went to all the trouble of adding the cancer cells.

Yeah I would have expected that an updated ISO in 2019 would now finally support USB Devices so what we don't have to use the old method from Intel to integrate them. Just shows you how lame this company is.

personally I would just create or build my own updated Win7 ISO image (with all editions included and with the proper usb3 drivers + IE11 + NET 4.7.2) as someone in the MDL forums did call these updated win7 isos "crap"

Def. disconcerting. First, these are 5.5 - 6GB. That puts an end to any single layer 4.7GB DVD installation... only USB installs? Or would the 8GB double layer DVDs work?
No machine compatible drivers beefing these up over 4.7GB, AND, laughably, NO USB 3 Drivers? They couldn't mount USB3's w/in these ISOs for their paying customers? Lazy F'ers, MS. Whatever is bundled into those iso's is positively not good

Any news on this topic? I made a post in MDL which didn't get any hits. I've looked at the main Simplix blog, nothing reported there yet. My concern is,
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...ning-support-requirement-for-windows-and-wsus

MS Quote, "To protect your security, Windows operating system updates are dual-signed using both the SHA-1 and SHA-2 hash algorithms to authenticate that updates come directly from Microsoft and were not tampered with during delivery."

So will Simplix be able to Download MS Update sha-2 Roll-Up packs, tweak, reconfigure, re-bundle, and post March UpdatePack7R2 sha-2? Or, is work around, avoid the MS Standalone sha-2 install? Keep using Simplix, if there's no problem.

BUT then there are .NetFramework Security updates you'd miss (prob. nothing major, but you may want it?), and for those using Windows Defender, et., nada. No WU unless sha-2 standalone is installed. So take a look at the quote, and link above. Can anyone offer any ideas how this may play out?

Thanks in advance you alls! Much obliged for any feedback. **Great find UltraMale -not a lot of chatter about this sha-2 standalone update anywhere else but here.**

A different time, but maybe when Simplix moved from the UpdatePack7R2 direct download, to UpdatePatch7R2 download to DL UpdatePack7R2 via patch (not sure of the Patch transition's impetus, but perhaps it was a workaround that can be used again)?

Take a look at a couple System32 files that readily come to mind (there are others). xNtKrnl.exe and xOsLoad.exe. Any Simplix user has these, per many AVs, unsafe b/c unsigned by MS... but they're legit. Run Command C:\Windows\system32>bcdedit (despite those unsigned MS files, you'll see winload.exe path, everything is cool, as your boot loader config will likely read as it should). Not signed by MS, but important w/in the Simplix UpdatePacks installation.

Thanks for your time any insight or feedback! Peace

also see the reaction from this MSFN forum topic
the folks there aren't gonna get those new ISOs

yea you could use a dual-layered dvd+r disc as I bought them months ago from Staples AND you have compatible DL DVD burner (old DVD burners that are single layered only won't work). otherwise just go with using 8Gb or 16Gb usb flash drives as I did re-install Win7 with one of those 5Gb+ ISO images on my relative's PC yesterday using a spare usb pen drive, which was faster than a dvd. and DVD discs have gone out of style lately and some PC electronics stores don't sell them anymore

about the upcoming SHA-2 update for Windows 7, Riley: wait until March 12 (Patch Tuesday for March) for them to be available. Microsoft will release it by then. also look here:

    AND here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...ning-support-requirement-for-windows-and-wsus

the SHA-2 patches will be voluntary (aka optional) when first released. by this July, they will become mandatory

Wayyy late on the reply, thanks by the way! Yeah, much to my surprise, Simplix was able to unbundle, rebundle without any issues. Correct me if Im wrong, but didn't his March update include the Standalone? This could be promising if come 2020, say we all throw in $$ to continue to support his project, he could offer the extended support?

Can one revert back to blocking IE 10/11 on a Live System already updated to inclue IE11?
One machine I left at IE9 (using the Toolblocker), and another Id changed. IE11 has a couple processes I dislike that are set to auto-start (DiskCache? or CacheTask? -I'm on a machine w/o IE11, sorry, can't recall). RAM is important, but it's not the main reason... I don't want the extra processes running (which on can't stop using command lines, nor Task Managaer).

These IE11 hidden OS folders in users/appdata/local (I think DOM Store and Indexed DB are new to IE11?). Mostly, CacheTask cannot be killed process. Best I could find was this thread,
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...k-object/218fb751-5933-4b7b-b98d-ced22c760656
user Zuhl3156's follow up, page #1 might be the reason.
*SO, can I uninstall IE11 using ie10/11 toolblocker? Or any other ideas to remove IE11 on a live System?

thanks much for any help or feedback!! *Also, love this revised thread UM! (good stuff!)

I hope this means Microsoft will extend Windows 7 support longer now to support DX12 in Windows 7.

The worry I have is that Microsoft will use DX12 as a Trojan Horse and piggyback on the Windows 10 spyware and telemetry.

As part of a last ditch effort to track and steal privacy information from people that know better than to move to Windows 10 to avoid all of that.

Microsoft may have figured this out and decided to try to sneak in that Windows 10 crap into a "DX12" update for Windows 7.

There's nothing I care about that DX12 offers that isn't supported in DX11 so I can do without the DX12 for Windows 7.

Also, don't the video card drivers need to support DX12 per OS? The driver for Windows 7 wouldn't currently support DX12. Also, this might require upgrades to games to enable DX12 support on Windows 7 as well. So the actual DX12 support will be spotty at best.

Amen to that. So far, I find most games are not Windoze OS X-only play better on DX11 than they do on DX12.

I suspect they are doing it because they found a new angle for generating a revenue stream, or to keep the spigot turned on. It's sure as hell not out of the kindness of their heart and there has to be more in it for them than there is for consumers. That's how they roll. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts and geeks bearing GIFs.
