Seems like there is no way around it. To install that update yet prevent the windows 10 upgrade, either download the updates manually using the Simplix Pack (original thread = http://forum.oszone.net/thread-257198.html ) which installs all updates minus the bad ones OR

How the hell did Microsoft think when they did this. When you do a clean install you need too update afterwards. It seems that you have to update manually before you can get rest of the updates and that is just so stupid. **** Microsoft!! -

Don't worry too much about it, I've seen that error a few times. If you go hunting for Event Log Errors it the errors will never end and you'll go crazy.
The only thing I cana suggest is update OR downgrade your IRST Driver and/or reinstall the NVMe driver if you are not in RAID mode. -
I just finished a crisp and clean Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installation on the 960 Pro in my Z370/8700K desktop. I fought it for a day and finally got help with some system driver tweaks from Fernando at Win-Raid forum. After integrating the 300 series chipset, RAID/AHCI, USB 3.0 and 3.1, and NVMe drivers, the installation went with no hiccups. The only "unknown device" items in Device Manager were the Intel ME and ASUS WiFi drivers.
I am attaching a zip file with these essential Z370 system drivers to save others the hassle of searching for them. You can integrate them into your ISO with MSMG Toolkit.
[ Download: W7 x64 Z370 Chipset/USB3.0/USB3.1/Intel RST RAID+AHCI/NVMe Driver INF files]
I am uploading the ISO now. When it is done I will post a link here for anyone that wants it.

Wasn't trying to blame the Malicious Software Removal Tool--just didn't know if I did something wrong. I can still run regedit from the command prompt. Speaking of the tool, am I supposed to enter the "Don'tOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001 into the registry?
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Make sure you save it as a *.reg extension and not *.txt then simply double click on the file you just created to merge it with the registry
Code:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT] "DontOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001

Either way, I am good. I don't use their updates for the most part anyhow. As long as I can activate Windows 7 and Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB I will be in good shape. I have no plans to update either one at this time.Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Update: For installing Windows 7 on machines with the latest CPUs:
Want to install Windows 7 on your new PC? chances are that you have one of the later CPUs (ie. Skylake/Coffee Lake) which are not supported by Windows 7 and the original Windows 7 ISO does not have the necessary SATA/USB Drivers so it won't even be able to detect your drives for you to install Windows 7 on it.
With the ASUS EZ Installer, you can simply insert your Windows 7 DVD or direct it to where your Windows 7 ISO is located and let it do the magic. It will create a bootable USB Drive for you that includes Windows 7 and integrates the necessary SATA/USB 3.1 drivers and from then on you will be able to install Windows 7 on computers that sport the latest CPUs.
Download = https://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/EZ Installer/HelpDesk_Download/
Note: For an easier method of downloading the latest AND safe Windows 7 updates without the bad updates which introduce telemetry or nag you to upgrade to Windows 10, consider downloading the Simplix Pack = https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...egrate-hotfixes-into-win7-distribution.45005/Last edited: Oct 29, 2018Vasudev, hmscott, toughasnails and 1 other person like this. -

MS Quote, "To protect your security, Windows operating system updates are dual-signed using both the SHA-1 and SHA-2 hash algorithms to authenticate that updates come directly from Microsoft and were not tampered with during delivery."
So will Simplix be able to Download MS Update sha-2 Roll-Up packs, tweak, reconfigure, re-bundle, and post March UpdatePack7R2 sha-2? Or, is work around, avoid the MS Standalone sha-2 install? Keep using Simplix, if there's no problem.
BUT then there are .NetFramework Security updates you'd miss (prob. nothing major, but you may want it?), and for those using Windows Defender, et., nada. No WU unless sha-2 standalone is installed. So take a look at the quote, and link above. Can anyone offer any ideas how this may play out?
Thanks in advance you alls! Much obliged for any feedback. **Great find UltraMale -not a lot of chatter about this sha-2 standalone update anywhere else but here.**
A different time, but maybe when Simplix moved from the UpdatePack7R2 direct download, to UpdatePatch7R2 download to DL UpdatePack7R2 via patch (not sure of the Patch transition's impetus, but perhaps it was a workaround that can be used again)?
Take a look at a couple System32 files that readily come to mind (there are others). xNtKrnl.exe and xOsLoad.exe. Any Simplix user has these, per many AVs, unsafe b/c unsigned by MS... but they're legit. Run Command C:\Windows\system32>bcdedit (despite those unsigned MS files, you'll see winload.exe path, everything is cool, as your boot loader config will likely read as it should). Not signed by MS, but important w/in the Simplix UpdatePacks installation.
Thanks for your time any insight or feedback! Peace -
the folks there aren't gonna get those new ISOs
yea you could use a dual-layered dvd+r disc as I bought them months ago from Staples AND you have compatible DL DVD burner (old DVD burners that are single layered only won't work). otherwise just go with using 8Gb or 16Gb usb flash drives as I did re-install Win7 with one of those 5Gb+ ISO images on my relative's PC yesterday using a spare usb pen drive, which was faster than a dvd. and DVD discs have gone out of style lately and some PC electronics stores don't sell them anymore
about the upcoming SHA-2 update for Windows 7, Riley: wait until March 12 (Patch Tuesday for March) for them to be available. Microsoft will release it by then. also look here:

the SHA-2 patches will be voluntary (aka optional) when first released. by this July, they will become mandatoryLast edited: Mar 5, 2019Riley Martin likes this. -

One machine I left at IE9 (using the Toolblocker), and another Id changed. IE11 has a couple processes I dislike that are set to auto-start (DiskCache? or CacheTask? -I'm on a machine w/o IE11, sorry, can't recall). RAM is important, but it's not the main reason... I don't want the extra processes running (which on can't stop using command lines, nor Task Managaer).
These IE11 hidden OS folders in users/appdata/local (I think DOM Store and Indexed DB are new to IE11?). Mostly, CacheTask cannot be killed process. Best I could find was this thread,
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...k-object/218fb751-5933-4b7b-b98d-ced22c760656
user Zuhl3156's follow up, page #1 might be the reason.
*SO, can I uninstall IE11 using ie10/11 toolblocker? Or any other ideas to remove IE11 on a live System?
thanks much for any help or feedback!! *Also, love this revised thread UM! (good stuff!) -

The worry I have is that Microsoft will use DX12 as a Trojan Horse and piggyback on the Windows 10 spyware and telemetry.
As part of a last ditch effort to track and steal privacy information from people that know better than to move to Windows 10 to avoid all of that.
Microsoft may have figured this out and decided to try to sneak in that Windows 10 crap into a "DX12" update for Windows 7.
There's nothing I care about that DX12 offers that isn't supported in DX11 so I can do without the DX12 for Windows 7.
Also, don't the video card drivers need to support DX12 per OS? The driver for Windows 7 wouldn't currently support DX12. Also, this might require upgrades to games to enable DX12 support on Windows 7 as well. So the actual DX12 support will be spotty at best.Last edited: Aug 26, 2019Raiderman, Papusan, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this. -
I suspect they are doing it because they found a new angle for generating a revenue stream, or to keep the spigot turned on. It's sure as hell not out of the kindness of their heart and there has to be more in it for them than there is for consumers. That's how they roll. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts and geeks bearing GIFs.
