I have a sony vaio FW480J and I play lots of games such as Fallout 3 and the Sims 3. Should i upgrade from Vista 64 to Win7 64? What i am really concerned is that Windows 7 wont perform as well as Vista at playing games like Fallout. If anyone has experience at playing video games on both OS's your input would be greatly appreciated

There's pretty much no difference.

yeah thats what i have been reading on most sites but some are really extreme with the differences between FPS on Vista and 7. Some say Vista is better and some say 7

That should pretty much sum it up. -
Like Lithus said, there is pretty much no difference. The differences that you do see will probably depend on the game, and not the OS. For example, Fallout 3 may run worse, but Crysis runs better. It also helps if 7 is a clean install, because your Vista copy would have been customized by Sony and would have a lot of other background processes. So in your case, I'm guessing that Windows 7 would be an improvement, because there would be no preinstalled applications.
I know when I installed Windows 7 on my laptop, I got a large improvement, because Vista that was already on there had a lot of bloatware from Toshiba. -
In terms of gaming performance Windows 7 is the same as Vista. It is faster in daily tasks, and the UI improvements give it a nicer feel. You're going to like it.

I have noticed an increase FPS in all my games under Win7 64-bit over Win7 64-bit. Nothing huge, but on a laptop with a low-end Nvidia solution, anything helps, well helps.
You have to be VERY careful with "benchmarks" of a Windows 7 (same for Vista).
1- Drivers. They are no official drivers for Win7 yet, and thing could change upon release of the actual OS on October 22nd.
2- Driver optimization. Alpha/Beta/first versions of drivers for a new OS are NOT optimized and carry bugs, this falsify benchmarks.
3- Benchmarks doesn't represents real world result. Maybe the area of the game where the benchmark was done doesn't show a performance increase, but how about another area?.
It is best AT LEAST to wait for official drivers for the OS, then using beta and alpha, on a BETA Windows. -

Over Windows 7 the gain or in Vista's? -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Really? That's interesting... -
I meant an increase performance over Vista 64-bit. -
Yup. No difference here. Or a small one at that. Sometimes, Left 4 Dead will choke when there is a lot of fire. Never did that with the older Nvidia drivers.....

Dox Optimized drivers FTW.

I have many of my games run better on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
For example:
Devil May Cry 4
Prototype
GRID
The Sims 3
Windows Vista is awful, especially the 32bit's Windows Vista. Really lousy. Low performance like crazy.
