Windows 7 Ultimate will be the least sold version. There is no point getting that.

Well there is a perfectly good explanation to that too. Apple keeps under its sole control the hardware to which its OS will be used on and thus can adjust it to run well in a limited number of hardware.
Windows... is a completely different story, it has to be able to run from netbooks to the latest up to date desktops, from home users to big enterprises.

    But that's not my point.

My point is that Apple knows how to sell. If Apple had 20 different versions (one for each makbook) and Windows one, the Apple users would love it and sing songs for it until world's end, while Windows users would look them with envy like the kid who got less candy than his friend.

Apple knows how to sell, they could sell refrigerators to Inuit (the guys living in North Pole) while convincing them that they must also buy gadgets for it, that it has cool new features (like making icecubes) and that they should be happy since they have the latest/biggest hit in the town.
Microsoft couldn't sell water to thirsty duying guy somewhere in the desert, without making him think that the guy at the Pole stroke a better deal than him. You can bet that he would complain that the North Pole guy has icecubes shaped like little cool animals, while his are... cubic in shape!

    DISCLAIMER!
I own both Macs and PCs and I use both at work.
I do not comment to anything else than the fact that Apple knows how to sell and Microsoft doesnt have a clue, it is not an OSX vs Windows post.
And I will end here the offtopic discussion! :) Back to our beloved six Windows versions and the clueless Windows salesmen! :p...

To be fair, XP had its share of versions as well:
    -Starter Edition
    -Home
    -Professional
    -Professional x64
    -Professional IA-64
    -Media Center Edition
    -Tablet Edition
    -Enterprise
    -Embedded
I'm gonna have to disagree with it being pointless.

True, but for most people, it will be irrelavant due to Windows 7's new feature hierachy where the majority of user's needs will be served by Professional if not Home Premium. Microsoft themselves admit that they will position Ultimate as a "niche" operating system aimed at boutique computer systems where the "ultimate" branding will add cachet, unlike what they did with Vista, and that it will have sales figures in the single percentage range.

Yeah, it would be nice if the two extras in Ultimate were simply packaged in with Professional: BitLocker and AppLocker, one of which I need. :p
